This is the sort of thing I love about this board. Someone has a concept; now we can bounce ideas off of one another and maybe you will find something that works.
I'm interested in hearing exactly what sort of effect you are trying to achieve? Are you envisioning a production effect or starting with one sword which suddenly becomes two and so forth? One sword multiplies to 4 swords or more? Does this have to be done "barehanded" or would you consider covering of some sort like a large silk or a mat of some sort? The first idea that occurs to me is that there was a sort of production sword made by Jay Scott Berry a few years ago. It was very easy to conceal, but could expand to a long length. The basic construction material was similar to the type of sword one would use for "Sword Thru the Neck" (if you know what I mean). I can't remember the name of the Jay Scott Berry swords and daggers. You'll have to do a search for it. Maybe he still makes them? Look for his website. I wonder if you could attach a hilt to the wide end of one of those silver appearing canes? From a distance on stage it might pass for a sword, especially if you hit it with lots of light so it really gleams and flashes. Ok, lame ideas to start with perhaps, but maybe this will get the ball rolling on your idea. |

Try and get some footage of a magician called 'Ayala'. He has been on World's Greatest Magic in the past and does exactly what your after, holds out a sword, a flash of fire at the tip and theres 2 swords.
Check him out, he is good. -Kevin- |

Thanks Dai,
Thanks for the idea and interest in this effect.. Well, here's what I am want to obtain, having a sword and appear into two and so forth.. I think max to 4 sword. I hope to obtain this effect using smoke or bare hand or smoke with bare hand. The more visual the more better... Thanks for the idea from J. S. Berry and the metal cane idea of appearing like a sword.. I will take this idea into consideration and play around with it till an ideal one comes into play. Thanks again Dai for your materials Symmatrix
