Hey,
I was wondering if anyone could tell me on which video Eugene Burger describes his method of performing the gypsy thread routine. I currently perform the method suggested by gary oullet but I find that sometimes the string gets tangled when revealing the restoration. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. |

I buy very few videos, but I CAN tell you that Eugene describes his gypsy thread method in detail in his wonderful book, "Spirit Theatre."
It's one of my favorite magic books ever, and I love that gypsy thread method, too. I've had very little problem with the thread getting tangled during restoration with this method.

A few copies are still available from http://www.elmagicshop.com. Also, keep an eye out on eBay, and post wanted messages in the appropriate forum here...someone's bound to have a copy they're willing to sell.

For the restoration, try using some gardener's wax softened with turpentine (never mind magician's wax)with the (silk) thread bundled loop upon loop on top of each other on the nail with just enough lead to grab onto and pull to accomplish the effect.
Think torn and restored cigarette paper... |

If I remember correctly Burger credits the technique for his version of the Gypsy Thread to George Kaplan, "The Fine Art of Magic". Unfortunately, this book is also out of print, but you can sometimes find copies offered on eBay. It has details on how to wind the thread to avoid the problem you describe.

I do know that it is in Spirit Theater, but not sure about a video.
