The ad says "Learn from magic's #1 instructor". Is that true or did Rob Stiff write that because Ben is his nephew?
Anyway, the ad says: This DVD focuses on moves that can be done at the card table, Ben takes you from beginner stunts to incredible advanced techniques. Don't be mistaken, this is not a collection of mindless card flourishes! These are killer moves that you can incorporate into your net magic trick or card game. Whip out a few of these moves at your next poker game and watch them tremble! This double sided, 2 volume DVD contains over 80 incredible card stunts! Here's the demo: http://magicmakersinc.com/dvds/cardstunts.html Here's the list of what's on it: http://magicmakersinc.com/dvds/cardstuntslist.html

I know that MM gets a pretty bad rap here mainly because they cop other inventor's creations and market them without any concern for ethics. This practice discourges many magic creators/inventors.
Some of the items they promote are of questionable quality compared to the higher priced originals. You get what you pay for - hopefully. Putting all that aside, the demo looks very good to me and Ben does a really nice job. He IS probably the #1 instructor as far as QUANTITY and sales are concerned, so that statement is probably true in that respect. Is he the world's best? Who knows. He does show some talent on this DVD, does he not? I think MM should be noted for their positive contributions as well as their negative 'anything goes' way of doing BUSINESS. This Card Stunt DVD looks pretty good to me and I am sure it will be successful. They know the market and let's face it, Rob Stiff is no dummy. Is there a patent or copyright on any of this material? I doubt it. So should we quote the 'Beatles' and 'Let It Be?'

I'm tempted to buy this just to burn it!
Seroiusly, I don't think any of the material is copyrighted. The name 'Card Stunts' was taken a while back though. Just remember...You get what you pay for. And $7.50 is probably still more than its worth. It looks like a lot of rehashed and basic, basic stuff. Tim

The effects on the DVD and lecture notes are far beyond your abilities. (They require mastery of the mechanic's grip.) It would only break your heart. Sincerely, Darwin Ortiz.......(This post has got to be in my top 5.) |

Hi Tim...
This video is geared toward the intermediate card man and any lay person that wants to learn some cool moves to do with cards to impress thier poker buddies, I presume. I would guess that you are more atuned to the Ed Marlo, Rickey Jay and Martin Nash genre. Nothing new here for the advanced card man (or woman). Certainly not for everyone. For the price it seems like a good value. $7.50 plus some dealers offer a 10% returning customer discount which would bring it down to $6.75. Probably see it on eBay for $2.99 plus $15 shipping. I don't think MM would mind if you bought them all and burned them.

You are right about the name of the DVD being ripped off. Rich Ferguson has used the name Card Stunts on his DVDs. These are being sold in many venues including Circuit City.

I have the dvd and really like it. It's a double sided disc so there is plenty of material. He teaches everything from basic dealing to advanced cutting. The music gets really annoying since you hear it over and over again but he's a good teacher and there are camera angles from both the audience's view and the dealer's view. I've been working on some of the intermediate moves and have been enjoying them, they're definitely adding a little style to my normal card tricks.

Greg Wilson does have a DVD named 'Card Stunts'. I was not implying that the title was copyrighted. Just mentioning that it had been used before. But, Now that you mention it, Ben using this title after Wilson makes me sick. Its arrogant presumption on his part that he thinks he is even in the same league. Tim
