Hi everyone, I'm training to go to the Ulmen Trials either next year, or the one after that.
Has anyone been that can give me some advice. I can do the first 5 pretty well, it's the 6th I'm having trouble with. I've set my training course with all the restrictions, with my brothers even agreeing to dress up in black hoods, and lighting the room by candle. Even training has become nerve racking... Is that going too far? Any advice would help massively Thanks Aleister |

That sounds pretty f$#@kin cool!
as for advice... well, do you have a youtube channel we could see any vids from ya? remember that only a couple of the trials are known, once you get there you'll be challenged with a bunch of new things that you'll have to perform on the spot. This requires a really well-rounded manipulator. For example look at Ciappi - his youtube vids show a great variety of cuts, fans, SSS, table work, etc... so in this way, he was prepared for the Trials. having black hoods and candlelit sounds like a lot of fun, but I don't think it will prepare you as well as the encyclopedia. If you want a real test you should enter in next year's World XCM Tourament as each round will challenege you to do something new and different - for example elementals, "no cuts" routines, etc. I wouldn't recommend even attempting Ulmen Trials until you have tested yourself in the World XCM Tournament and proven your strengths, and discovered your weaknesses. |

I will be applying for the World XCM Tournament next year.
I will also be putting up some you tube videos soon, but have none as of yet. I have everything from de'vo (save for motions), I also have many other XCM/Flourishing Video's and Books, as well as the Encyclopedia from Jerry. Ciappi didn't get very far, so I realise I probably won't either, but it sounds like one hell of an experience. Aleister |

Sounds like you've got a good plan. I think the most difficult parts are the fact that for the SSS it's got to be original and those Ulmen guys will probably have already seen most displays - you'll have to really think crazy to come up with something to surprise them. Best of luck and let us know when you've got that youtube up.

How do you mean, original. Does it have to be a new design, or a new method of getting into the SSS. If it's the first of the two, I will have to re-train. Might as well do that anyway though.
thanks for your help trashmanf. I will post some links to youtube clips pretty soon. Aleister. |

Original as in a new design. For example, you wouldn't be able to do a viereck with a different formation.

Alright, I guess I'll have to start thinking inside the box.
Has anyone on here taken the Ulmen Trials. What about you webghost? Aleister |

I've taken the trials, and I didn't pass the first step. You can prepare as much as you want, but when you're there you realize it's never enough.
You may think you know what to expect, but only experience will give you even the slightest clue. Pass or fail it's a great experience! |

Webghost - I took original to mean the formation of the sculpture. You're saying that you couldn't do a four-packet formation that, in the end, looks the same as Vierick (a standard square); no matter how you create it?

That's correct, forming a viereck in any other manner wouldn't be accepted. Step two is extremely difficult for that very reason, it's a creativity test as well as a skills test.
