I'm not sure if this is the correct forum but I'll give it a shot. I'm looking for tricks or illusions that have to do with water, (water bottles, etc.) and magic. I own a water store called Magic Water and on occasion perform small miracles for my customers. I'd like to find other effects that are related to this theme.
I'm presently building an ever pouring floating bottle of water and I'm also familiar with the cap in water bottle effect. I'm looking for illusions that could be used for display purposes and also small quickie tricks I could perform while they're shopping. Any ideas? Thanks all! |

The Peacan Brass Collectable involves water. Sounds like a pretty good effect. The price is also very low. I do not have it, but here's the link if you are interested: Click Here!
Hope this helps. |

Two classics that should fit right in come immediately to mind-- the lotta bowl and the foo can. Both are old enough that they should be pretty easy to find.
-Reg {*} Another one I just thought of -- the "cloudburst coin" and variations of it. Basically water rains from a coin when it is squeezed. I can't post the method here but if you don't already know, it should be pretty easy to find.

Think disappearing/reappearing silk, disappearing/reappearing salt. Use some water instead of the silk or salt.
Don't forget the coin in bottle. An old, but available book/manuscript: "Windowstoppers" Bottle Production
You have to give it away to keep it.

How about a water suspension using a TT. Eugene Burger describes a good one in his pamphlet "Audience Involvment" (which I think is part of his recent book, "Mastering the Craft of Magic").
Not exactly magic but: cartesian divers (easily made using a plastic water bottle and an eyedropper) are kinda cool.

THANKS ALL for the great ideas and references. Keep them coming.
Ronin: What are cartesian divers? Where can I get info on such? |

Jeff McBride has an effect that produces mini-water fountains in his hands. I learned this from a lecture. I'm not sure where else it can be found, maybe his lecture notes?

The hydrostatic glass, which is an oldie but little seen, can be very effective. It involves filling a glass with liquid, covering the mouth of the glass with a piece of paper, and inverting the whole works. The water remains in the glass.
Of course, this is a fairly well known basic science experiment. The first payoff comes when you peel off the paper and the water stays in place. The second comes when you command the water to fall out of the glass and it does. You can buy this from many magic dealers. It is also possible to make one fairly easily but most home-mades won't work nearly as well as a professional one with a molded or (as I once manufactured) lathe turned gimmick. Sid

The Chen Lee Water Suspension is a great one.
Multim in Parvo Outdone is another, but not so quick. Great children's effect, "Passing Water" is a lot of fun. Steven

If you go onto google and plug in "Water magic tricks" you'll get a variety of sites and water magic to check out. You must put the word tricks into your search o/w you get science water magic.

There is a humorous trick involving water and toilet paper in Magic for Dummies. I've never personally tried it out but it looks like a good effect for an (informal) outdoor venue.

Try "Crazy Liquid". Its a small routine with three plastic glasses. It doesn't cost much and its a cute effect. Something simple.

Hello:
I'd like to put my vote in for Chen Lee Water Suspension also. This is a KILLER trick that fooled me badly the first time I saw it performed. You can do it fairly close to your audience without being busted. Also, the good Aqua Slush, Slush Powder, etc. is a wonderful item to have around water. All best, Brad Burt

David Ginn sells a funny sight gag routine Spring Water Bottles. You tell your audience you're into drinking natural spring water. Show them the bottle, unscrew that cap & pull it out - stretching out a long plastic spring. Get it? Spring Water!
It looks like a nesting type routine with 3 bottles. The small bottle is the off spring. It is $12 from David Ginn. I could not find it in on his website but saw it in his Autumn 2002 Leaflet.

Yes, if you ever want to perform something funny using water, you should look this up. Also, as far as display products, have you seen those fountains that look like faucets at the Cracker Barrel restaurants? It looks like a faucet connected to nothing is continually pouring water. |

Antigravico is a dealer item in which a pop bottle full of water is inverted. The water remains suspended in the bottle. Toothpicks may then be inserted into the inverted bottle and will float up through the suspended water. It's easy to do and with a minor effort you can end up clean and everything (well, almost everything) will stand rigorous examination.

I vote for the pea can. I know a lot of people dismiss it as tasteless and hokey and all the rest, but if done right, and with the right prop, it can just be a lot of fun, and a great surprise ending. One hint: Don't spill the water on the assistant's hand, as suggested. No need to embarass them--and you won't lose any of the effect if you pour it on the floor or on your hand. Second hint: Only get a well-made pea can. I paid the big bucks for a Gen Grant model. It's a work of art and works perfectly, smoothly, easily. The cheapies do not do that. I've seen advertised a brass one for a little more than ten bucks hat looks well made.

I think it's called "water transformation" but I'm not sure. But here's how it works, you show a regular 16 ounce plastic water bottle that's full. You pour all the water out into a syrofoam cup. You place the cup on the right side of the table. You place the empty water bottle into a bag you have already shown to be empty on the left side of the table.
You go over to the syrofoam cup and turn it over and no water comes out. You reach into the bag and take out the empty bottle of water that's now full and you pour it out into another cup. |

Scott Alexander's Water Monte from his Midnight Show DVD - a great piece of magic. This might be a little more than a quicky, but packs a big punch.
