These are really simple and inexpensive to build. If you're worried about durability and ease of replacement I'd urge you to just build it yourself. That way when it gets damaged or shopworn you can just create another. Plus you can customize it anyway you like. If you want red and white stripes you can build it with red and white stripes and not have to settle for whatever motif your lucky enough to find in a premade version.

Regan, post a pic of your red and white tube should you go ahead and do one yourself. I would love to see it or whatever you come up with. The ones I have done (only 3 or 4) were whatever color oak tag paper I could find and one that I did that was black.

The best place to find oak tag paper is at a Teacher supplies store. We have 2 of these stores in Fort Wayne, and they carry everything when it comes to arts and crafts.

Thanks everyone! I found out that the Zebra Wonder Tubes are no longer being made. Several places that still had them on their website had sold out and said they could not get any more. I could not find anyone that had a red & white one, but I was lucky and found a place that had 2 black & whites ones left. I bought them both! That eases my mind because I don't like to go with only one of something that I cannot replace when it is going to be a vital part of a routine.
Jimmy, thanks so much! That is all I wanted to hear. I was hoping someone who actually owned this and had used it would give me their honest opinion about it's durability. I have some items that I own multiple backups of because they wear out. It's just the nature of certain things. Heck, I'm not much of a card guy, but even playing cards are good example. I like bicycles and I feel they are as good as it gets when it comes to cards. They are great quality, but I know they will not last forever. The more they are used the more they wear. When I found out Zebra Wonder Tubes were made of some type of paper I assumed they would not last forever. I trust your opinion and was hoping you could give me a good estimate so I could decide what to do in case I only found one. Bill, I realize we need to be careful about that, as you mentioned. Believe me...I am! That is why I was so concerned about the durability issue. I have learned my lesson the hard way several times in the past with magic props being discontinued. I always try to buy extras when I can. You might not believe how hard I have searched trying to find things that I use in my show that are no longer made. (You're a magician, so I'd say you would believe it too, because you've probably been in similar situations many times) All that trouble just so I would have a backup, or several backups in case something were to happen to mine. I am always on the lookout for such items. The problem in this case was that before I even decided to add it too my show I was finding out that the Zebra Wonder Tubes were no longer being made, and I didn't know if I could find even one...much less more than one. I almost didn't, but it worked out in the end. Payne, yes I realize these can be built, and I was prepared to go that route if I couldn't find one or more Zebra Wonder Tubes. I was still questioning myself about whether I should try to buy just one or just try and make some myself, if only one could be found. I actually have 2 identical massal tubes, and a 3rd of a different variety. None are the right size for this routine I'm working on, but the 2 identical ones are more or less homemade, and I don't like the look of them. For this new routine I want something that looks more professional and kind of flashy. I wasn't sure how good I could make one look. Maybe I could have made it any color, and a red/white might have been better, but I don't know. I was still debating and could not really make up my mind on that issue anyway, so I think the black/white will be fine. Also, time is such a problem for me right now, and I have more on my plate than I can digest already. I really do not have time to take on another project. Anyway, thanks so much to each and everyone of you! You have been most helpful and you provided plenty of information that enabled me to make an informed decision...and purchase. I really do appreciate all of you! Regan

I'm glad your problem is solved. I just saw this video of David Ginn today and thought of you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6jhf9hwGE1Y
A different solution, but one that works in case someone else needs the same thing. You can use David's red and white silks, or perform the whole thing with the black and white Zebra silks.

Thanks for thinking of me, Professor.
I received my two Zebra Wonder Tubes this week, and I just wanted to thank everyone again for all the information and help you offered concerning this prop. I am really glad I got this while it was still available. Most places I contacted were out of stock. Fortunately I found 2 places that had them. One place said they "thought they might have 1 or 2 left, but would have to check to make sure". Another place said they had 2 left, but I still made him check to be sure. He had them, so I bought their last 2. I can't believe how close I came to missing out on getting this again. I am really impressed with the quality, and I believe it will last me a long time. I am going to put the second tube in storage, so I will have a brand new one packed away in case something does happen. Jimmy mentioned that the most risky way of damaging the prop was during transport to and from shows. I would definitely agree, and I am looking for a good way to protect mine. I'd like to find a sturdy tube, but the Zebra Tube is large, so it might be difficult to find something that will fit. So far I have not come up with anything, but I will be keeping my eyes open! Thanks everyone! Regan

For a carrier go to Office Depot. They carry mailing tubes in hard plastic, that come apart in the middle, and they also telescope to different lengths. They are on the same rack as the cardboard mailing tubes in the stores. This will protect them very well. If you need a handle there are several ways to attach a handle for ease of caring.

Thanks! I will check there! I was thinking finding a mailing tube large enough might be a problem. If Office Depot has them that will be fantastic!

I would get a piece of plastic pipe at Home Depot or Lowe's. They should have 4" sch 80 pvc that would work. You could even put a cap on both ends.

Thanks Richard. I had thought about the PVC pipe, but I thought I'd look for something a little lighter-weight first. If I can't find the correct sized mailing tube, or if I think the mailer is not going to be strong enough I will most likely go with PVC pipe. If I do go the PVC route I will probably opt for schedule 40 instead of schedule 80. I believe that will be strong enough for me.

I did a quick search on Office Depot, I did not find the one they carry in the stores, but here is one that is sold on line only.
http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/44......be-3-12/ It would be best to visit an Office Depot Store, as it would be easier to find there. The one I have seen in the store was like 4" in diameter, gray plastic and locking length adjustments. Not as expensive as the one listed above. |

Thanks William! That is a nice looking tube! The diameter is a little too small, but I will check the store and see what they have. I may try Office Max too.
