This 4 card trick seems to be a bit overlooked. It hardly ever gets a mention when packet tricks are discussed, and yet it's one of the very strongest ones available.
I think it's in Mr. Walton's "The Devil's Playthings". It's sheer perfection. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4otxAeo8f0 |

I'd forgotten about that trick, although I remember seeing it long before starting with cards and thinking I wanted to learn it someday! Good lay audience baffler, I'd think!

Plays really well with ESP cards, Mickey.

Just checking, is this effect along the lines of the Jupiter Changing Card Effect? This looks ungaffed, but just wondering.

No idea what Jupiter Changing Trick is, but yes, the Roy Walton trick above just uses the 4 regular cards.
I, myself, present it to a spectator in a way that I'm the one being fooled, NOT them, under the guise of a visit to the opticians. |

Sorry, Kevin, I must have been mistaken. Perhaps, one of his other books. I honestly thought it was in Devil's Playthings. I will try to find out just what book it's in.
Thanks. |

Thanks, Steve. No need for an apology. It gave me a chance to go back through the Walton books again. In the Paul Hallas book "Small But Deadly", there is a brief mention of Kaleidoscope as a marketed effect.

Yes, Kevin.
I apologize for the accidental mistake. I've been informed by a very knowledgeable fellow that it was marketed by Davenports in the '70s. I'm sure you will be able to work out the handling by watching the video. It's a beautiful trick. Thanks. |

DM its just 4 regular cards.
Obviously you need three different packs for the contrasting backs. Steve. P.S. Like I mentioned above it plays very well with ESP cards too. |

Just what effect are you referring to here DM??? If it's Kaleidoscope cards you can do it. It it's Jupiter Changing Card you can buy the effect and do it to your heart desires.
But in general "Yes," it would be both ethical and principled for you or anyone else to perform it. That's truly what it's there for - to perform. So go for it.

People need to see these wonderful tricks.
I don"t think the actual Kaleidoscope trick is available anyway. |

So the majority agrees on allowing to peform the effect..
Anyone here have the original instructions? Just in case it has some subtleties/tips..
