Does anybody know of an easy to follow card trick I can use for a kids show?

I'd recommend Six Card Repeat.
The emphasis being on counting to six and not the face or values of the individual cards. |

McCombical can be staged as a gentle sucker effect.
But true genius and the Mccombical with kids might be a backstage version where in the end the magician is as fooled as the kids. The real secret might be which you do the best and which shows the real you the most. |

I do a card in balloon routine. I use picture cards, and the volunteer gets to pop the balloon. If space permits, he/she pops the balloon by throwing darts at it.
This also allows a lot of funny balloon gags before the actual trick. Jim |

I don't think you should do "conventional" card tricks. But card to ceiling/shoe/improbable place is one they can identify. Transpositions like torn and restored, etc. also get 'em going. And some big card nursery tricks like Spider Beside Her and Three Little Pigs (check Sammy Smith and JAM Magic sites for several of these) do go over really well. Also, check out Magic Bob's "I Hate Card Tricks" for Kids on Spellbinder's site. Those are some great kids card tricks (cartoon characters, transpositions, funny alterations of "regular" card tricks)

The Three Little Pigs (The Wizards Journal #16 on my site) goes over very well with children because the story is so well known that kids can repeat the lines right along with you: "Not by the hair of my chinny-chin-chin!" We have a Do-It-Yourself version that includes all three houses (Straw, Twigs, Brick) and a very deceptive way of accomplishing the ending where the wolf and the pig change places.
Other card story tricks, like Goldilocks and the Three Bears, that work in the magic THREE combination of elements, are easily understood by kids because they are so well known outside of the magic world, that when they are illustrated in a magical way, the kids are drawn right into the action.

Jumbo Two Card Monte... you can even make your own custom one with flash cards or their favorite current pop-character (Sponge-Bob, Yo-Go, Hanna Montana, HSM... etc) for your OWN use, or even THE KIDS Picture... Imagine how cool that would be in front of all his friends and family!

In close up situations (walk around in family restaurants) I have been using the new FLASH CARDS from Creative Magic. These are great cards with pictures that correspond with various letters of the alphabet. They have some trick decks but I use a straight deck and a force.
In kid shows I still use the FLASH CARDS but I will combine them with the Card Fountain that I learned to make from MacGyver Magic. For under $20 in supplies you can make an excellent card fountain with items found in your favorite home hardware store and at Radio Shack. Their DVD gives you easy to understand, step by step directions. Find out more about FLASH CARDS at http://www.creativemagic.net/flashcards.htm and find out about the card fountain at http://www.MacGyverMagic.com.

Here's a good one. If you like the sound of it and want to know how to make it up, give me a pm.
Here's the bare bones of the effect, but there's heaps of room in this for funny bits of business... You bring out a paper bag. From the bag you take a Winnie The Pooh deck and a ribbon. Hand the ribbon to a kid to hold. You then show that the bag is otherwise empty. 3 kids select a card each and remember which character they picked (Eg. Piglett, Winnie and Tigger). The cards are then shuffled back into the deck and the deck is tipped into the bag and the ribbon is tossed in there too. The kids all shout the magic words and when you pull out the ribbon 2 of the selections are attached. (The kids will soon tell you that the 3rd one isn't there). So you get them all to do a magic blow and suddenly the final card appears on the ribbon! Cheers Billy James |

Check out "Comedy Card on Back" by David Ginn, or Bill Abbotts "Ninja Card Trick"
both are easy to do and easy to understand for the children. |

"Cards Across" from Trevor Lewis on one of his videos is very funny and really great for children.
And I love to perform the Invisible Deck for children because the routine is funny and very buffling (for the adults too). But the kids have to be old to really understand the mircale, nothing for kindergarten. |

I also do an invisible deck routine, but it's part of an overall routine with my spring skunk... so it's both a card trick and a puppet show. The skunk bit works
for all the kids, and the invisible deck routine bowls over the adults. I also like to use a Dad in the bit as it's good to keep the parents involved during the show and having an adult come up for one bit works great. --Jack

The Flash Cards are a good steer, and another set of card tricks worth mentioning are the Snake Basket-type reveals (which can also be done with spring or stuffed animals a la Abbott's Chico the Monkey). While "pick a card, any card," is kind of boring for the under 8s, if you have the Private Eye Python reveal the card after some byplay with a snake charmer flute, or have a jack-in-the box or a spring skunk in a box with a card fountain, they love it. Then it's a puppet trick rather than a card trick.

Two card routines that I find play very well for kids is Kids Cards by Richard Pitner and Stickman from one of the Richard Sanders dvds.
Kids love to see the stickman jump around and eventually find and land on their selected cards. Kids Cards play great because they really look like cards that kids would design. Also I should note that both of these effects play great for adults and or bigger kids. Thanks and have a nice day, Walking Bob in Iowa |

You've also gotta check out Magic Bob's stuff at Spellbinder's site:
http://www.magicnook.com/magicbob/index.htm#Card%20Effects I see he now sells the cards pre-printed, which is great. I bought several pdfs but would have rather gotten the tricks. I wonder if Magic Bob will give a discount for pdf purchasers on his tricks. He's got some great ones; Emperor's Clothes, "I see London, I see France," Mummy Madness, etc. |

The "uno" version of the 6-card repeat. Very visual, very colorful, and most kids (unless they're glued to videogames 24 hours a day) are familiar with Uno (the card game not the Spanish word) cards. Simple to follow and only requires they count to six.
