Roger Federer won the last 5 opens and yet this year he is the number 2 seed. Spain's Rafel Nadal is the number one tennis player in the world right now. This should be an interesting open.

Federer.
Have always been a big fan. Every superstar has an off year. This has been his. He will be back. Mark my words. Maybe not this time (although I think this time) but next year. Technically one ofthe best players ever. |

Apparently he had flu like illness in the beginning of the year and it affected his legs. I believe he will win again this year. He’s a nice guy, I got to perform for him and his coach a few times. They liked it!

Yes, he suffered from mononucleosis or something in that line. Tough on the muscles. There has been numerous sport stars that have had a bad year or so and then get written of only to make a monster return. Never listen to the idiotic comentators. Remember a few years back when it was the end of the Williams sisters. Oh no, I guess they were wrong. Very wrong.
One of my favorite sport quotes is based on a selcetion for the South African Cricket team. We had a player called Lance Klusener. Feel free to google. He had afew bad months but was still selected for the national team. upon criticism the convenor of the selection panel said "Form is temporary..Class is permanent" He almost single handedly won matches a few weeks later again. Federer will be back. |

He is in great form and he is hitting the ball a lot sooner than before which means he would struggle less at the US Open than in previous years. At least the semi finals but probably all the way to the finals. I hope Federer beats him but if he gets to the finals I would still put my money on him if only for this year. |

It looks like Nadal was about to lose his semi match against Murry but then the match got called for rain!!! Murry was up two sets to zip for Nadal. Nadal didn't look good and seemed to be affected by the hot humid weather. Bummer. Now that he has had a chance to rest and regroup, it should be interesting to see the final outcome. And of course Roger Federer is in the finals but who will he face? Who will he face? Will Roger Federer win his 5th U.S. Open in a row?!!! And for the first time as long as I can remember they will have to go an extra day and play Monday! I'm glad I'm not working it this year. As much as I loved working the Open, you just don't get a chance to enjoy the matches. It's all work, work, work. This year I got to see some really great matches! |

Well it looks like Nadal got the short end of the racket. Too bad, I feel like he got a bad break yesterday with the rain. His match was to be in the afternoon but because of the rain they made him (and Murry) play a rush game in stadium 2. That plus the humid conditions really threw him out of his game. he is a obsessive compulsive and is very meticulous about Everything! So being told to make a major change could not have been good for him to deal with. And it showed in his play. I thought he would be able to recoup after play was susspended yesterday, recover and come out and play great today but I guess he was too deep in the hole to overcome the odds.
Congratulations to Andy Murry, he kept it together and pulled out the upset. Andy Murry verses Roger Federer for the U.S. Open championship! My money is on the "Magician" of precision! |

Well, just like I said from the begining...
Roger Federer won his record setting 5th U.S. Open championship! Even though he has NOT won a major Grand Slam all year! This would have been his first year without a major. But like a true champion he fought all the way to succeed! Congratulations to Andy Murry! This was his first major and he played great. We'll be seeing more of him, that's for sure! Too bad for Nadal, I think he really got the shaft and that's a bummer. He has never won an Open and this was as far as he has gotten so far. Maybe next year? Too bad there are not more tennis fans here at the Café... |

Well in retrospect on the year, 1 semi-final and two finals and a title. Not bad for someone who is rumored to be on the way out or on a slope. Can't wait for snext year because I think before long Federer will be back where he belongs at number 1.

True. Even though this was his only slam this year, in the others he reached the semis and the finals. And some will argue that he and Nadal's Wimbleton was the best match played...ever!
But as a competitor when you don't win the big one, you feel like you failed and second is never good enough. |

If you want fun, come prepared and come to win. Don't always listen to me though because you may end up a miserable competitive freak like me. One more big tournament left this year. Let's see if Federer can finish on a high. |
