Hi!
I am trying to find out the name of a mentalism effect I saw performed last year; where a spectator is asked to think of any card (I think that is what happens). At any rate, there is a playing card folded into a square; which is held in place by one of those bull-dog clips. This is in view the entire time. After some byplay (from what I can remember about the effect), the clipped card is unfolded and it matches the card the spectator thought of. I believe the clipped card was one of the Aces, but I'm not 100% sure. If anybody recognizes this effect, I'd appreciate knowing the name of it and where it can be purchased. Many thanks! Frank

It could be "Shameless Open Prediction". It is currently on sale at Magicsmith.
I have to admit that I do not use this effect; and you might want to check out some of the reviews before buying. The bulldog clip is useful, though. Good luck!

I believe it is Sankey's "Paperclipped". Basically, it is an effect built around the Mercury fold.

I also think that the routine is Jay Sankey's Paperclipped. You can find it in "The Very Best of Jay Sankey" Volume 3. Namely "@#X!".

Fhood, the clue is that the prediction is held in a bulldog clip, not a paperclip. The bulldog clip is commonly known among mentalists as an Ostin Clip, and has a useful property that can be used in a multitude of routines.
If you'd like to know more about the uses of the Ostin Clip, I recommend Richard Mark's book, Mind Warp. Although the exact routine you described isn't in the book, once you learn how to handle the clip, I'm confident you'll be able to put the routine together yourself. Best of luck.
