Recently, I purchased the Osborne plans for the Twister illusion, so my goal is to start working on it sometime this weekend. I do have a question for the head piece. Where can I get the gadget that closes and opens the head part to accomodate the persons head when in place, or how do I build it...the plans are not quite clear. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks |

I assume you are talking about the head "clamp".
What I did was to make two side pads that look sort of like small, soft, overstuffed seat cushions and mount them to the insides of the head box. They make it appear that the head is tightly wedged in the box, even though it is not. I then mounted a fake crank/ratchet on the side of the box, and have the assistant grimace when the crank is turned. This is much easier than trying to figure out a method for making a clamp. If it is something else you are referring to, please let me know.

The plans also don't' tell you where to get the lazy susan the head box sits on..
http://www.woodworker.com/cgi-bin/FULLPR......20Susans I've seen them cheaper at Asian Restaurant Suppliers.. they're hard to find.. but they're necessary for the illusion.. |

The ones with the large center holes were not available in a 12-inch model when I buit mine, but I was able to use one of the table-model lazy susan bearings and cut a larger hole with a saber saw.

Have any of you had issues with the Osborne design? I'f you did what was it, and what would you recommend doing?

I scaled mine down slightly to accommodate a smaller person, but otherwise it was the same. Just check all of your measurements carefully.
