I have an old c/s that has separated. What should I use to rejoin the pieces? If glue, what kind?

Thanks,

John

I think the best thing is to send it back to its original manufacturer.

Good luck.

Cheers,

Super glue. but be sure you can properly match them together exactly within 5 seconds.

If it's a custom gaff send it back to who made it... They may or may not charge you... But I am sure it would be worth it... if it was just a clad one, I would fix it with super glue or buy a new one...

Good luck

Hi John,

Superglue is a no no. It is not flexible and any sharp knock will cause the gaff to come apart. You need to use a very fine coat of flexible adhesive such as Araldite.

Make sure both surfaces are very clean and grease free before you join them.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the responses. I'll check out an Araldite-like epoxy.

Just spoke to my uncle who restores antique metal pieces for Italian and French museums, and he suggested Araldite epoxy. He suggested not to put too much of it and to press (pretty strongly) the coin just after glueing it and for two to three days.

Thanks again. I did a quick shop and did not find any Araldite, so I settled for a Lepage epoxy. The coin is in the clamp as we speak. I'll post results in a couple of days.

I repaired one with JB Weld and had no problems.
