What do you think is the ideal thickness of a chop cup and 3 cups for cups and balls? What thickness would take the abuse of frequent performances, like beating the cup with a wand or cup through cup execution, or dropping the cup on the floor, etc?

065/1000 of an inch is what I find comfortable.
God's grace rocks! It makes a good cups and balls routine look pretty boring in comparison.

It depends on the metal.

What if it is stainless steel?

Jeez I don't know... I know I like them really thick and heavy and able to take serious punishment with a hardwood wand, as I bang on them quite hard to attract passers by.

For copper, something like .050 to .065 inch is a good thickness, although you can get by with less, if necessary. Brass can be a little thinner. Stainless steel at .040 inch is pretty thick. This is assuming that you are spinning the metal. If you are doing CNC work, you can go thicker. Copper is more malleable than brass. Brass is generally more malleable than stainless. Stainless and brass need to be annealed more frequently than copper.
Copper is not a good metal for CNC, generally speaking. It has a tendency to gall, so you need to cut it more gradually.
