For those of you looking to add a great effect that says "I'm different!", consider The Space Between. It's a completely normal and examinable (without the special gimmick)tape measure that is used to measure the space between any two objects. Prior to measuring, the performer writes something down on a piece of paper and seals it in an envelope. The envelope is handed to a spectator, never to be touched by the performer again. While the measuring of the "space between" the two objects is being done, the spectator is even given the option of changing the distance between the two objects...making it a little more of less....it can be changed if desired. After settling on the two points, the measurement is made and confirmed by the spectator (and announced to the audience). The sealed envelope is opened by the spectator and in the envelope is the piece of paper (or business card) with the exact measurement written down. Trust me, this is a great effect which gets a big response from the audience. The props (the tape measure and the special gimmick) are the same high quality that Mr. Palter provides in all of his marketed effects. It also has several very nice and well thought out routines that you can perform. I really like this effect. It's definitely something different and it plays extremely well. Don't pass on this one! It's a keeper.

Though it doesn't appeal to me personally, I think this is a pretty unique product and presentation (I haven't bought it).
Has anyone thought of a transfering this ability to a participant yet? -J

It won't work very well that way (as is). But it is a thought. Tony |

I was thinking along the lines of openly writing out a distance, 'hypnotizing' a person to have an increased awareness, then having them place two objects accordingly and measuring it. That wouldn't work?
Just thinking out loud here.

Easy to do, there's one sleight outlined on the instructional DVD but I've eliminated it.

Hello all:
I just wanted to add my comments/answer any questions regarding my "The Space Between". The trick has been selling very well, and has been getting great reviews! The methods included are for both a sleight and a non-sleight version. I prefer to use the sleight version, because then the measuring tape is examinable. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you for your time. Best regards, Jason Palter Paltergeist Unlimited (416) 410-5766 |

Same in Norway, but it is quite common to have the meters that show both the inches and the centimetres (metres). With this one you can choose both in prediction and in revelation. Endre

Hello all:
The tape measure has metric AND imperial measurements on it (one is along the top edge of one side and the other is along the bottom edge of the same side......the other side/back of the tape is of course just blank). Please let me know if you have any other questions. Thank you for your time. Best regards, Jason Palter Paltergeist Unlimited (416) 410-5766 |

Guys - just needed to chime in and say how wonderful and adaptable this effect is. It plays like the derren brown counting buttons routine - a sevant like skill at estimating and/or predicting.
Here are some of the things I've done with it. dart board prediction: envelope stuck on wall beside a dart board. Participant is asked to stand in front of a dart board and throw a dart while staying still and not moving an inch. They can stand wherever they wish. The envelope is then opened, and inside is predicted both the number that their dart hit, and also their distance away from the dart board - to the milimetre if I want! you secretly stick an envelope to a friend/on stage participants back. Ask a spectator to take a coin from their pocket - any one - and toss it away from them maybe towards a wall or aim into a glass on the other side of the room. you tell them "you will definately get it in the glass". They toss it, and miss. Everyone seems disappointed. You say though, that's not what it was about - in truth, there's been an envelope on their back all the way throughout. they open it, and it predicts 1. the coin. 2. the fact that the glass was missed. 3. whether the coin was heads or tails up 4. and the exact precise distance of the coin either from the glass or from the original participant! I've predicted the distance that a tail is placed away from a donkey, for family audiences - and not only that, this is by far one of the most powerful metaphores for corporate goal setting I've ever used. highly recommended, even at twice the retail price. |

Perhaps a collection of these routines and the explanation with the purchase of The Space Between would encourage more buyers. Even a forum with a password. Very clever thinking VIEW

I've got a ton of different uses for it, I'm just so surprised that it's gone under the radar - it should NOT be seen as a straight up effect. it's a routine enhancer, and an incredibly strong one.

Could this routine be integrated with Joshua Jay's Tape measure routine??????

I altered the routine so you could do it on a table or Bar Top, using a mini tape measure a couple of objects and millimetres !! it works like a charm.
