I am currenly learning Paul Gertner's steel cups and steel balls....Im am trouble finding ball bearings...especially for the final loads, finding ones THAT BIG! anyone have any ideas as to where I can pick up these steel ball bearings in really large sizes as well as small?

I am having trouble finding those huge ball bearings too, especially over on my side of the world. I hope you can find yours, illusionist13.

I believe that RnT II sells the ball bearings.

Yes...it is a big boat as far as magic supplies and finding most things that I take for granted by just rolling to the nearest wal-mart or office depot...

Aluminum could work....as long as it wont dent or anything along those lines as it will be dropped from about 2-3 feet. Hopefully not falling on the ground..but probably on accident on occasion...

Alluminum won't work as you must be too careful with it.
It dents and scratches too easily.

R_N_T 2 has them. I would also do a search as there are several manufactuers of Steel Ball Bearings over in China.
Also do a search for Berings Incorporated as they specialize in the things.
Not sure if it is spelled Bearings or Berings....Try the search and see what you get.

A solid aluminum ball will not dent very easily. If you get the correct alloy, It will also not scratch easily unless you really put your mind to it. It simply requires a modicum of care. Simichrome polish or a good buffing wheel will remove any scratches that you get on a solid aluminum ball.

I guess the five we used to have in the shop were bad ones then.
I never had any luck with any of the alluminum Load sized balls.
Who wants too use a buffing wheel every third performance or everytime before a show after practicing with them?
The steel ones I have don't require that type of care and are the same type that Paul Gertner uses...got them from the same company here in Mentor, Ohio.

I got 5 pinballs recently for $25 (for all 5 at once) that are fantastic for this routine and are 1" in size. Danny Vegh's sells them but I am sure you can get them at better game pool shops. They told me they can get bigger sized ones but there isn't much call for a BilliardBall sized pinball. They were going to charge me $115 for a 2" ball. The company that makes them sells them for $45 or so wholesale...easiest way to get them is to order direct I think.

Why not use real billiard balls? They're cheap.

I do use a cue ball and 8 ball in my chop cup routines.
I also experimented with really big jawbreaker final loads....using regular jawbreakers or marbles as the regular balls ...cheap is right.
And you can eat the chipped ones.

Same here, I use a leather chop cup (Olde Harry Stanley Unique from England) and a Cue and 8-ball for the finals. He included a nice gimmick to load a small snifter with liquid in it, but I never felt like carrying it.

A big ball of steel will be heavy to steal and so on, maybe plated plastic or something along those lines?

Don't have the link with me but there was a good site for Contact Juggling balls in steel. These were Hollow, like the ones that chime as you manipulate them. They come in a variety of sizes and make a nice change from the plexiglass.

Thanks, Bill. Finally I can have my hands on some BIG steel balls.

The thing is with this effect..that really sells the end.....is the final load of a steel ball which is dropped about 2 feet above the table ON to the table. The ball is solid steel which makes it loud...and it is larger than the cup itself......you load from two hands. We will see though! Thanks for all the help guys!
