As others have said, I agree that every magician should have the Tarbell books in their library. You can indeed build an entire career based off of the effects and material contained within their pages. Not to mention, the raw material, moves and sleights can certainly be inspiration to create your own new effects and routines.

Don't forget about the Tarbell Companion. It is a comb bound book about 148 pages. It was edited by Steve Burton and put out in 1994. I made sure that to get this so I have the entire set. I was lucky enough to receive the first four volumes (1964 edition) from another magician. I then purchased 5-8 and the companion book.
There is some great material in there. It is amazing to read through a volume and notice that it has the same trick that has just been put out as "new". Best regards, Jim |

Is this still available? I have the normal 8 volumes of Tarbell and saw this advertised many years ago.

There is a lot of great mentalism in those volumes. Osterlind included some effects in his Easy To Master series, but also he refers back to it continually. With mentalism, everyone always endorsed Annemann & Corinda. Those certainly are must haves, but the work in Tarbell should not be overlooked! |
