Purist, Bill Palmer used to have copies of the Ammar book, try to contact him, I think he is without power in TX so, you will need to wait for him to respond. Also in his cupsandballsmuseum.com he has a section on books that could be usefull.
I have Ammar book, Andrews DVD, Milt Kort booklet, Mendoza routine booklet, these last 2 booklets you can get them from rnt2.com (MadJake is the user for Jake here at thecafe), and I also has Gazzo booklet and Scott York 2 cups routine PDF, most people like Gazzo, I prefer the others authors. Scott York routine is very nice too but one of the cups is chopped. And finally I have Rannie Raymundo video on his C&B and is an excellent way to learn the C&B, I actually started with his and then I went to Ammar and Andrews. Rannie's routine uses a combo set. I also recommend to study the sleights in the context of the routine, so at the same time that you do the sleight you work with your misdirection and body position, there is a lot of that in C&Bs, more than difficult sleights everything is the ability to direct the attention of the spectator where it needs to be for you to do your moves (I am quoting Tommy Wonder...) Have fun with the cups and balls. Pablo |

But I'm serious about all this, so am happy to pay that. And Mr. Gunn is right--they do turn up on eBay. (A nice bit about my purchase: The (mint condition) Ammar book is autographed. The guy I bought it from coincidentally had the same first name as me. I've now got a signed copy that reads "Thanks Geoff! I hope you'll use this. Michael Ammar" and dated.) Geoffrey

I don't have any spare copies of the Ammar cups and balls book at this time. Watch eBay. Watch Martinka, as well. For a while, L&L had some of the deluxe copies for sale, but they, too, have gone OOP. With the current upsurge in interest in the cups and balls, I think they may reprint it. All it would take would be for several people to request it.

As far as the Ammar book goes, just be patient and keep your eyes open, Sometimes one can get great deals, on Ebay or in the emporiums here. I obtained my copy sometime over the last year for less than $50.
Theres some great advice on this thread, I'll add that its always best to have a strong foundation in the basics, that can be built upon later. |

If you are tight on budget, try Tom Osborne Cups and balls magic or get an e-book including the Stanyon lessons on C&Bs or get the Eddie Joseph books in e-book form.
As an alternative to the good advices of Pete Biro and Bill Palmer who really know what they are talking about, buy Kent Gunn's routine. After studying the Cups and balls for fifty years and gone through more than fourty thousand leaflets books, VHS, DVDs... I think it's the best routine ever designed (yes better than Jason Latimer in my eyes). If you go this way just write a script that fits your personality with your own theme, plot, humorous lines and patter for it.

There's already been great advice here, so I will only mention a couple things here.
Typically newbies to the cups & balls are overwhelmed by the seemingly endless number of options in a routine. That's what makes it great and something you can personalize for your style and performance needs. However, I would first focus on the "classic" routine: Vernon. This is nearly perfect, really. I have serious issues with Ammar's routine, particularly on the moment of the loads, so be aware of that. After you see a routine, such as Vernon's, typically there are two issues to resolve: (1) convincing vanishes for the balls; (2) loading the cups. For this reason, I often recommend to my students who want to learn the cups and balls to first master a Chop Cup routine (okay, my chop cup routine) then tackle the routines with more cups. You learn the fundamentals - the ball vanishes, and the loads. But it's only with one cup and one ball and it is easier to focus on what you need to focus on and not be overwhelmed with the other cups. Finally, it is also possible to do an entire 3-cup routine with no ball vanishes (my formal close-up and stage version incorporates this idea). Something else to think about. Good luck with learning the best effect ever created in magic. Doug |

Heads up: there's a certain Ammar book just listed on a certain well-known auction site, starting bid $0.01, nearly seven days to run...
(I have no connection with this, btw) Geoffrey

The cups and balls routine in The Magic of Michael Ammar is only a tiny bit of the information in Michael Ammar's The Complete Cups and Balls. The cup and ball book goes into very intricate detail on the moves, the loads and all of the niceties of the cups and balls.
