Hi all,
This night was a performance at the Dutch television from Hans Klok in a Tv Program called "Nationale Postcode Loterij, Wat Schat Je". He tried to do as many ilussions he could do in 5 minutes. I've taped it, and wanted to share it with you all, I would say click the link and enjoy watching it! http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=NcALJsXkNP8 Grtz Patrick

I don´t like it. There is a really little feeling of magic/wonder transported...
There was no time, so the public was reached by the impact of one of the illusions. I guess it would have been more amazing for the viewer to see 2 or 3 of the illusions (presented in the HK-style) in the same time. That would have left the viewer baffled. Like that I guess they were not really stunned - they didn´t know what just happened separately. |

Thank You Joy Joy. I am thinking along the same lines myself. I just do not see the point in all of it. I know why he did it, as it is great press coverage for him and good PR for sure. It gets him noticed more and seen. I can understand that.
But in regards to magic and illusions as an entertainment art form, it did nothing for me. The audience did not even have time to take anything in at all before the next illusion was being presented. Most of them looked and felt very similar in feel. To me magic and illusions are all about the art and about the emotional impact and entertainment value you are giving to an audience. When you perform them like this, you strip all of that away. There becomes no substance at all to what is being presented. I my own mind it makes the magic seem less impressive and non important. Instead of elevating the magician and having the audience remember the experience, they are left remembering the prop only. Just my thoughts. Kyle

What was he doing with the swords when he started "Compressed"? It's like he already performed his last illusion, and was just fooling around to look busy when the clock ran out.
Not sure I liked the breakneck pace, either- but Hans at least looked like he was having fun. -Erik

I do not mind doing an illusion fast for the sheer impact and power it can leave an audience with. However, this would be in contact with a full show perhaps as an opener for ashow. That has a reason and works in the grand scheme of things. This to me really had no purpose other then a publicity thing for Hans. I do not blame him for it as it did work and it gets him known. I just do not personally think it does anything for the audience.

The goal of this tv show is that the audience is divided in 2 groups and they have to guess how quick, long, heavy,... somebody or something is.
So my idea was to have Hans Perform as many illusions as possible in 5 min. He can do about 15 but we decided to do 10 so the audience could follow what's going on. The audience went wild and loved it. (look at the reactions and standing ovation at the end - no cue was given for this by the warming up guy!) Since it had to look like we didn't know how many we could do in 5 min.we put more illusions on the set (origami)than needed and started to perform the compressed when the time ran out. Since the tv audience doesn't know what the compressed is we added the swords to give it a familiar magicians prop look. I agree that this 'fast speed illusion demonstration'is not a good idea for a normal show but for this kind of tv show it worked perfectly. I hope this answers your questions... |

Did I just basically see a semi- exposure of Instant Babe?
It's all in the reflexes.

I like the way he tends to slam some props around, it gives it a great sense of power. The act as a whole however did nothing for me. I just kept saying to myself, "This is all so pointless".

Was there a camera edit at the dekolta chair? I watched that part four times, and it seemed 1- too fast to be possible, and 2- from the camera angle it looked like she was gone already when he put the cloth on because you could see under the chair on the side where the cloth doesn't cover.

I don't think there was a camera edit with the Dekolta, Hans does it very fast with the "system" he uses! I seemed very rushed, but I understand it for the type of show. Still think Hans is a good performer and spectacular to the lay crowd!

His dekolta chair is so fast, and so good, that I think this is the method to use to fight ''the future exposure ''of the mask bastar d . I'm sure that the presentation of the MM exposure programm will be long and lame. And bad. So the audiance will be totally fooled with this version. enjoy!
