Yes, pens are more common than pens.
Yeah, the plack pens are a bit more common than the yellow ones, but even more common are the white round bics. Or even the black round bics. I would advise, that is you wanted to use it on a pen, going with, either a gimmicked pen, OR making a non-hexigon gimmick from something you can get at McD's and then spraypainting it to the aproppriate colour.

I have been practicing Misled for a couple weeks to smooth out handling of the gimmick. I love the trick and think it has enormous potential as many of these posts demonstrate. From those of you who do the trick,I would appreciate any general handling tips -- within the boundaries of protecting the modus operandi.
I've worked out most of the kinks, including the difficulty several poster refer to with taking the pencil out in the second phase. But the one thing in particular that I'd like some help on is the first penetration. I have not been able, when pushing the pencil up "through" the bill, to get a sound that simulates a penetration; this really takes away from the illusion, in my view. A couple times, friend have said that it looks like the pencil is just behind the bill. A good popping sound with the first penetration would deal with that. Has anyone else encountered this problem and dealt with it? I would really appreciate the benefit of your experience. |

Lonnie Chevrie has a finger through bill that will fool the pants off people. No gaff.
Often, when I perform this for live audiences, they want to examine everything. They ask me to give them the bill, then they ask me to give them the finger. So I usually do.

LOL. Nice one, Bill.
I have been very tempted to get thi effect for a while. But I currently do my own gimmickless version which simulates both phases of Mislead. I came at the trick from a different angle and it seems to really fool people. However nothing beats the cleaness of Mislead. It looks great.

Waterford, in no way I want to claim that I am a very good magician but I do see some horrible performances of Misled on MagicVideoDepot though.
You just have to press with your thumb and your other two fingers on the pencil and with you other hand with one quick blow thrust the pencil upwards. I do the performance EXACTLY like David Copperfield does it and I think it's the best performance. I haven't seen one little video that comes even close and I think it's sad. |

I actually do it reversed, that is I poke the bill through the pencil
No, really though, I do it upside down, with the fold downwards and pushing the pencil down through the bill. I find it actually helps with the nagles for making it look like it is not just behind the bill.

I own Misled but never use it. While it does have the potential to be more visual than a pen thru bill effect, you can't beat the clean, simple, anytime, anywhere, foolproof nature of the latter. You just can't go wrong with cheapie pen thru bill.

Thanks for posting that. I know I saw that performance a long time ago but it's been a while.

I have one in the drawer too, but I did perform it a lot several years ago. It is really a *** deceptive piece when performed right.

I love Misled. I have not performed it for years, but I have been practicing again. I have a boss that always uses a yellow wood pencil. This should go well at our next engineering meeting.
