I have seen "Tim Sonefelt's Lucky 7" advertised in magic magazines. It looks like a fun colorful trick, and I wanted to learn more. But I read and re-read the ad and I see nothing of what the effect is.
I went to the website I was directed to in the magazines ads. I see nothing of what the effect is. Isn't the effect the reason we do magic? I don't want to make any assumptions, and that's why I am posting to ask this. It seems that this trick's strongest selling point is that it is colorful. So here's my question (finally!) - What is the effect of this offering? Is the trick so bad that the creator is nervous about describing the effect? Or is the method so obvious that the creator is nervous about spilling it in advertisements? Or are the advertisements simply poorly done in that the effect was neglected? Or was the ad's copywriter so taken by the props that they forgot all about what a performer is supposed to do with them? I am not making any accusations or assumptions, but merely addressing that goes through my mind when I see something being sold without telling what it does. It doesn't make sense to me. Forgive me if this has been addressed. I did a search and found nothing. |

At first glance it looks like a version of Magician's Choice, you force the volunteer to select the same card as you have in an envelope. Tim did show it at FCM in July and told me you printed out your own pictures on to card from the supplied cd, then placed them into the envelopes. Hence the low price. The one I saw was very colourful and appealed to the kids who saw it. And it comes with a few starter routines you can add to.
For further details contact Tim by e-mail, using the Contacts page which generates an automatic form. Here's the blurb from the web-site "Seven is your new lucky number! Lucky 7 is Fun. Lucky 7 is Educational. Lucky 7 is for Holidays. Lucky 7 is Variety. Lucky 7 is Audience Participation. Lucky 7 is Magical. Lucky 7 is Seven Different Routines with one set of props. Lucky 7 comes with four very special, customizable and reusable 9X12 envelopes and a CD containing complete instructions, scripts and original custom artwork for seven different routines! The routines are: Magic, Circus, Reading, Fire Safety, Christmas, Easter & Halloween. Price: $39.00" Tim's props are some of the finest I use.

"At first glance it looks like." That indicates you are unsure yourself, which reinforces my confusion. I read your copy of the blurb from the website. It STILL tells nothing of what the trick is.
If all that's being sold is a magician's choice of a picture, I think I'd be intentionally vague, too, were I the "creator." One can find free clip-art pictures all OVER the place! |

Okay ....
But what's the effect? |

The effect is to distract the thread away from the original topic, which was something about a magic trick . . .

....and don't forget that 1 divided by 7 gives a recurring factor of .142857
Now multiply 142857 by any other number between 2 and 7, and notice that the solution is the same set of numbers, but starting from a different digit! ...as for this effect, it sounds like you get 4 envelopes and a CD....for "7" effects, though one would assume whatever they are, they're all similar. Sounds rather pricey to me, for a trick you have to make yourself? And as you've pointed out, they are probably "effects" not tricks, or the blurb would tell us more.... |

No starrpower, I'm not confused. You are!!
That's why I told you what I remembered about the trick, then told you to contact Tim (the creator) direct. He won't mind answering any questions. Pricing is always going to be subjective. I didn't buy it purely because I already have a version called "Charlie's Invisible Message" from David Ginn that I like using at Christmas etc. I did though buy other colourful stuff from Tim.

Yes, I AM confused!!!
I am confused as to why is should be so difficult simply to find out what an advertised trick's effect is ... besides being colorful, I mean. |

I just reviewed this for the KidAbra Journal.
Here’s the effect: Child is given chose of 4 envelopes. One envelope contains an object you’re looking for. Each envelope is opened to revel an object or fact related to the object you‘re looking for. Child can swap envelopes at anytime during the routine. Of course, they picked the correct one! Especially unique is the fantastic original artwork that comes with this trick. It is fabulous! The seven routines include: - A Fire Safety Theme - A Circus Theme - A Easter Theme - A Magic Theme - A Reading Theme - A Halloween Theme - A Christmas Theme Once you understand the concept you can even use the envelopes and create your own themes! Includes 4 very special, customizable and reusable envelopes, complete instructions, scripts and original custom artwork for seven different routines! Hope this helps! |

Starrpower,
I got this directly from Tim in an email... "basically it's a mental magic effect for kids, that kids understand. For instance with the one pictured, you tell the kids that your magic rabbit is missing but you know he's in one of your four hats. A helper picks which hat he thinks the bunny is in and he holds it. You remove what is in each of the three hats (envelopes) he didn't pick to reveal different magic 'things.' Finally his envelope is opened to show he found the bunny. The kid ALWAYS gets it right and there is no force or sleight of hand involved."

Is this a pocket trick, or can it be done for an audience? How big are the envelopes?

The envelopes are 9x12

Just got the new MUM and Tim explains how to make your own in his article. I thought it was a little strange b/c I read the article and then on the opposite page there was his ad to buy one already made up. For $40 I think its a bargain, the graphics look great. I do have a couple questions: Do you get Art work for 7 different routines? And what are the envelopes made out of? I do a similar routine and it's hard to keep the envelopes looking mint.
P.S. I would trust Tim S. to put out quality stuff, I have been very pleased in the past. Thanks |

Quality throughout. 9 X 12 Envelopes laminated. As the KidAbra Jorural Reviewer I gave it the "Gold Seal Of Approval" which is the higheat rating you can get on a product. The artwork is awesome.

One of the incredible things about Tim's approach to his effects is that he actually gives away the farm on a regular basis !
He was down here in Florida last year for a lecture, and after he performed each effect, he described how you could make one exactly like his on your own. He would list the parts that went into each effect, and where he got them. However, if you didn't want to take the time to build or create the effect, he would be glad to sell you everything assembled and ready to go. Needless to say, a few heads were turned when he took this approach. Wow, a magician who is selling his creations, but shows you how to make them yourself at the same time ?!?! Now THAT is magicians helping magicians ! By the way, the stuff he makes and sells is awesome. His silks are beautiful, his effects play really well, and they are things that work in the real world of childrens' performers.
