I wouldn't know about magic professionals (though Jerry O'Connell springs to mind), but become friendly with your local leather specialist.
Shoe makers are becoming a bit out of fashion, but get in touch with some arts and crafts stores and ask around if they know of a leather-worker.
Most likely the leatherworker will help you with your customisation.
It might be considered heresy, but if you explain what the customisation is for (what (and how) you are trying to accomplish) they will likely be more helpful (and keep in mind some size constraints etc).
I doubt whether you will need to tell the leatherworker to keep the customisation secret - I'm sure the leathermaker would like the mix of thrill (keeping a secret) and pride (their "creation" creating astonished faces).
