An important disclaimer might be in order:
I was totally unfamiliar with the Julianna thread--my picking the name "Julie" for my parody was pure coincidence. The behavior that caught my attention was in the "Our New Arrivals" forum, not the "New to Magic". It shouldn't change the discussion any. But it's important for me that you know I was not singling any single person(s) out in any particular thread with my reference to a fictitious "Julie". |

Think about it - She's advertising her intention of putting up videos as a "proof" for days, then she puts up 2 poorly made vids just long enough to have a few boys look at them, and then taking them down? Hmmm... I could have taught my little sister these tricks when she was 12 in a few days! And she would have been glad to do it just to mess with people's minds!

I personally think some of the comments came from guys looking for attention, and they never had experience raising girls. My daughters grew up in magic and everyone respected them. My youngest, now almost 39, worked with me from the time she was 3, and probably attended more magic conventions than most magicians ever dream about getting to attend. Stone: I sincerely believe that you had no idea about the other thread until now, however, I am glad you brought the subject up, as it gave an opportunity to point out once again how women have been treated by some, and still are, when they express an interest in magic. I doubt men would make derogatory statements if they were standing in the cage with some of the women who are "ultimate fighters" today. Perhaps it would be a test of their "manhood" though. Gaddy: as for the videos, I have seen worse performance by many "magicians", let alone a 17 year old girl proving a point, which she "did not" have to prove.Good for her though as she put some jerks in their place. |

In my opinion, everyone here is only an alias unless proven otherwise. That's the nature of the internet. A few homemade videos doesn't constitute proof in my book. Especially because it reminds me of the sort of devious prank that I'd play on someone. Not that 'she' needed to prove anything, it really doesn't even matter what a bunch of screen-names have to say, or any of us have to say for that matter. The thread speaks for itself in all it's glory, and I remain highly amused by the whole thing. Mike Doogan told me just the other day how he used to do this sort of stuff on all the magic boards just a few years ago, almost as a psychology experiment of sorts. Eventually, Criss Angel asked him to stop doing it because it was unethical and a waste of bandwidth, but it really made me think...

Never criticize someone else until you have walked a mile in their shoes. Then, when you do criticize them, you will be a mile away from them and you will have their shoes.

It seems to be the men that are still “little boys”, who around their peers, have to treat women as if they are “lower” than men. We used to refer to them as “bullies”. I will leave the other connotations to your imagination. There are still many real men around who will stand up for women and defend them though. As for the “scum”, they know who they are, and what they are. No talent individuals who feel it is necessary to gain attention anyway they can, and to them any woman is fair game. It is a real pity! |

Some men are scum - they are not numerous, but they stand out.
Strange that I am the one defending hetero men, but most I know not only find women sexually attractive, but respect them as people. The two are not mutually exclusive. Most married men I know love their wives and regard her as their best friend. I tend to disregard the things men say when they are in a group of just men. Often they are saying what they think is expected of them as a 'man' - not what they think. It's harmless. Of course in a perfect world people would feel comfortable to say exactly what they think at all times and be accepted for it. No doubt there will be legislation to that effect any day now. Destiny |

I treat more men like crap and harass them much more than I ever would a female. If I'm about town, I tend, naturally, to eye women. The problem with some men is that they disguise their shallowness by engaging in countless hobbies, or fruitless endeavors which take their mind off the one thing they think about most.
