I am really getting into coins now and I have decided to spice things up with a flipper I am also looking at some two sided coins. I am currently looking at Johnson products. So, here is the issue. My first experience with a double sided coin made me scared to buy another one. I bought a no-name 2 head quarter from ebay for about $10. The seam was obvious and it lasted about five days until I dropped it on the floor and it split in half. The Johnson 2 sideds are a bit more, about $40. Does anyone have one of these? If so, here are a few questions I have; Are they shimmed instead of just 2 halves? If for some reason I hand it to someone are they going to see the seam, am I going to notice the seam? And, most important, if I drop it a will it split in half?
As for the flipper the only thing I am worried about is if I will have any issues doing a steeplechase with it. And I know its never a good idea to hand someone a gaff but I am curious to know if anyone has handed someone a flipper and gotten away with it. Thanks in advance for any help. |

I don't think I would hand a spectator a flipper coin. Furthermore, the Johnson type flipper seems rather limited in usefulness to me. I prefer a gravity type flipper, like a Lassen or Schoolcraft, etc.
From a simple craftsmanship standpoint though, I have always been satisfied with Johnson's quality. This post should probably be in Trick Coin Trickery though... HTH, -A |

Curtis kam in his notes "Mr Eclectic" places a flipper at the fingertips of his spectator. its all about management.

In Troy Hooser's flipper lecture DVD he places a flipper in the hand of a spectator, as part of a "coins across" type routine.
