I don't waste money on vitamins (adult candy) and I haven't taken fish oil pills. I just eats lots of fish, I'm the son of a fisherman. I grew up on fish and eat it about 4 - 5 times a week. I am in great health and no cholesterol issues.
Fish oil, flack seed, almonds, walnuts, beans...it's all good! Don't forget to drink water! I know you are NOT drinking enough. But more important than what you take in, is how much you put out! Are you good for 2 - 3 liter per day? hmmmm, are you? Drink up...and to help prevent the growth of kidney stones, drink water with lemon! |

If you are parched ... too late you're dehydrated.
If you are ******* like a race horse, you're drinking too much water and wasting all of those expensive water soluble vitamins, along with your $25 per gallon designer water.

I take a hand full of medication every day, some are prescription, and some are vitimins. I take 1,000mg of fish oil in the morning, and 1,000mg of fish oil at night, 2,000mg at once would be a little too rough to handle. Everything else I take is for high blood sugar, high blood pressure, cholesterol, I also have stomach, throat, and back issues. The good news is that I can still sit up and feed myself.

Flax seed oil is bad for the prostate, watch out guys.
You can get quality fish oil with no mercury or other heavy metal content at vitaminshop.com It's not cheap but it also tastes good. They even have cod liver oil that tastes good (seriously). Just a little lemon flavor to it. Also no mercury to worry about. It tastes so good a kid will not just eat it, they'll ask for it. I'm told the oil is more effective than the pills, similar to fresh garlic over pills. |

Ken,
Thank you for bringing up this topic. Interesting! I never knew one would take 6 per day! Your doctor is telling you the truth about vitamins, Americans and others are overdosing on them and they aren't needed if you eat colorful meals. But no one believes it! I don;t know about Vitamin D though. The latest stuff suggests that might be good to take. We bought the fish oil pills once and I took one and got terrible indigestion, so I never took anymore. I'm not sure how to avoid that if you don't eat a lot of food. We don't eat that much so I haven't pursued it but we pretty much eat according to what is known and recommended now and our test results are great. |

Yes, my doctor said six 1000mg pills and they can be taken all at once. If your test results are great then there is not need to go through this horrible regimen of swallowing 6 large pills everyday. Consider yourself lucky.

Hi Ken,
I hope your tests are good now. Yes, lucky that we can do it with diet, although it is tricky to figure out what to eat to keep your test results good and still keep us happy with our diet. Our doctor didn't think I could change it through diet and without meds. I found what Randirain apparently found, that lowering the amount of protein in our diet was effective. I think doing most of the things recommended worked for us. Exercise helps a lot to lower cholesterol. Thank you Ken! |

There is a downside to ingesting too much fish oil. It can thin your blood too much, causing some problems with clotting and other such things. If I recall, this was discovered in Eskimos who's diet is primarily fish. It takes around 10,000mg a day before it happens though- which is roughly ten of those large fish oil capsules.
However, I started getting zits when I took three capsules a day. I cut back to two, and the problem was solved. -Erik

You know what is good and simple to make and eat? Take sardines and put them on plain crackers, like premium, then sprinkle a LITTLE bit of shredded cheese on top and a couple of shakes of Louisiana Hot Sauce and it is good, you get your fish and No fish pills. It makes a nice and easy hors d'oeuvre and you can have it a couple or more times a week.

I'm lucky in that I come from a genetic line that processes cholest. well and no one in my family has had a problem with it. My wife takes fish oil and from every study I've seen that wasn't paid for by a specific packager of fish oil the one most free of contaminents is the Costco brand, no kidding.
