Greetings.
Having read great reviews about this effect, I am interested in purchasing one. But I live in Europe, yet have not been able to find the European Chair Suspension for sale in Europe! Can any of the owners of the illusion point me to the manufacturer of this product? Buying one from the USA and having it shipped back to Europe seems a bit unreasonalbe to me... |

Both Gunther Puchinger (www.pucheffekt.de) and Mephisto (www.mephisto-magic.be) sell a great version of the chair suspensions in Europe.(they are very simular)
They can hold a adult without any problem and are very well build. |

Not saying they are not good models, but I would love to see one up close and test one out. Even the Sommers and Mak models SAY they can be used for an adult but I would never ever place an adult on it as it really is not designedto hold that weight. The only modelfor an adult that I have seen first hand and would reccommend is the Bill Smith model.

There are 2 versions of the European Chairs Suspension. I am not exactly sure which is the builder for my set, but Dominik Magic seems to be advertising them. I bought mine from Hocus Pocus.
One version comes with Red Chairs, and it has a more sturdy board and support. I suspend my trained assistant(adult) with no problems. I tried a couple of shows suspending audience member but felt unsure. After much advise from other Café members, I decided to buy the Bill Smith Model. The black chairs set is lighter and have a smaller support board, the top part of the chair is also slightly concave unlike the Red Chairs (This gives more sturdy support). I felt that would not hold an adult's weight but I think it is more sturdy then the Mak or Sommers Model. I have owned Mak but felt the slack is too much even for a kid. The european ones shows no slack. I just ordered from Bill my Harbin Chairs Suspension and hope to get it soon. This would be my 4th Chairs Suspension set... |

Hi Chris,
I don't own for sets. I started with the Mak and sold it. Then I got the Red chairs European set, which I have been using till today. I bought the Black European set initially wanted to have a back up set or for rental. However it did not match my specifications so it was returned back to Hocus Pocus. My intention for Bill Smith set is to suspend an adult audience member. Jeremy |

Thanks for the info.
The Dominik site seems to be down, could only find a cached version without any images, so it is impossible to see their version right now. The Mephisto set is not the type of chair I am looking for, since those apparentely do not fold completely flat. I would rather have the typical wooden fold-completely-flat type of chair as seen in the european chair suspension photo at hocus-pocus. As for the Puchinger thre is also no mention on the star trick site, but I will inquire... |

George Kimery, of Chalet Magic, used to sell the Puchinger chair suspension years ago. It was the nicest set I've ever seen. (I have not seen the Bill Smith version in person.) The Puchinger chairs were rock solid and beautifully constructed. I can only assume they haven't changed dramatically since then.
They are not wooden. They are steel chairs painted white, with a red seat, if I remember correctly. (It's been at least 10 years since I've seen one.) Michael |

I don´t think there is an image on Bill Smith´s site of their chair suspension. I am curious as to what type of chair they use. The ones on Dominik are type I was looking for. I understand metal chairs (the Puchinger "red chairs") can be stronger, but I don´t think they pack as flat as the wooden ones due to the curved metal construction. Packing space is an issue!

Rolf,
The metal chairs fold just as flat as the wooden ones. While my metal set was not built by Bill Smith, it was built directly from the Harbin plans by Sandy Rhoades. Michael |

Last year I bought the version from Hocus Pocus and it is very well made (although a bit heavy). I will easily hold an adult up to about 180lbs.

If you send an email request to Bill he'll email you a couple of photos of the prop, including one with a person suspended. |
