Did anyone catch Andy Martin on Wife Swap? What a great bit of television! His son Eli looks like he's going to be a force to be reckoned with in the future. About time they tidied up their house though....

I can't stand this programme - almost as bad as "clowns"

I thought this episode was great. I especially like Andy's perspective of just wanting to share more smiles in the world. The other lady sure needed one!

As far as reality television goes well I'm not sure that I could hate anything more than reality television. If this is reality then my decision to read books instead has been validated. I think Groucho Marx said it like this: "I find television very educational. Every time someone turns on the television I go to the other room and read a good book." jeff |

I couldn't agree more. Over here (I'm assuming it's the same in the US) we're swamped with reality TV. Refering direclty to "Wife Swap" how much entertainment can one get out of putting couples together with totally different values, background, money and culture just to watch them argue? What's the point? The makers try to paint a picture that they are learning from each other. However, we all know it's just to see how they can create the biggest argument/falling-out. It's quite depressing, really. Mark |

Just kidding with yah Mark. Totally understand on the Reality TV!
Our Culture has been flooded with them for the past 15 years and its out of control. When they did the "Baby Sitters" thing and gave young children to CHILDREN to watch and care for - That was the line for me. And who in the world can seriously pick a Farmers wife out of few City woman? Totally absurd. The only reason I would watch this Wife Swap with Andy is to learn more about him. But sadly, I didn't know anything about it until after the fact so... Oh Well. Brad

I do agree with you about TV, and especially reality TV. I watch very little, though good comedy and films appeal. In fact, I can't stand "Wife Swap", but my friend who adores it made me watch it, and of course, Andy made it very entertaining. I was really taken with his smiley, happy attitude, and fence-busting mentality. But the sad truth is that reality TV has become the latest "Soma for the masses", yet another helping of depressing human interaction which surpasses even the abominable soap opera. Makes the wretched feel that life could indeed be worse.....
Yes, OK, so I was also in a TV documentary, though "Clowns" was highly acclaimed at least, and was a serious documentary, not a game show/reality TV type of docu-whatever these programmes are. He he, Mark, at least you're consistent in your dislike of such shows! Be aware that such TV exposure is pretty darn good for business though. Some said Tommy Tickle would suffer after "Clowns" went out, but needless to say, he's busier than ever. I'm booked solid for months, and even Lyn Thomas, the magician who snapped and whacked a kid, has gained a lot of kudos and business since "Clowns" went out. I'd still like to hear what others thought of Andy's part in Wife Swap? :) |

I think Andy did a GREAT Job on Wife Swap. Did you know that his family is also trying to be featured on a Second Edition of Wife Swap. There was a Poll at ABC where you could Vote for your favorite family to return for a second show on Wife Swap and Yes I voted for the Andrew Martin-Portala Family. And his son Eli will soon be a force to be reckoned with as he is very talented.

I just don't understand why anyone would want to spend so much time watching someone else living their lives. Most of the time the stuff that you see is LCD and I really don't want my family to think that this is how folks are supposed to live or how people should be treating each other. Another part of this is why would you want to air all of your private family matters for all the world to see? What benefit does any family receive from participating on these shows?

At the start I thought he was coming off a little too weird but he seemed a nice guy by the end of it all.

Also the $ 50,000.00 dollars does help. Would you not go on wife swap for
$ 50,000.00? How do I know this, our ring was invited by the network to participate in this shows segment however no one in our ring had small children and could leave for that amount of time. Rodney

Not sure I'd want to have my familial relationships (as boring and uneventful as they have been for the past 17 years) aired on national television for the entertainment of others. $50,000 for this...just isn't worth it to me.
