Hey guys and gals,
I have a question about 2 different kinds of cloths. I need to know the correct name for them and if possible a place to purchase from. One is the cloth used in Voyeur by DC shown here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gupANtHInWc Seems to be more lightweight and slow falling. I'm not looking for something that I could use that's like that, but I actually want that type of fabric Second is the where can I get good stretchy material that is similar to what is used in Through steel by DC. Right now I'm working on copying his whole show.....ok that's not what I am doing but I thought the best way to describe what I needed was to show you and being Copperfield is most widely known, he'd be a good choice. Thanks in advance Lucas |

Depends on what you are doing with it. If are wanting to do the flash vanish that is done by DC the rights belong to the Pendragons. You would have to buy rights from them. Some people use this vanish in artist dream illusions or another highly used version of artist dream also rights owned by Pendragons.
The fabric you are looking for the stretch is lycra or spandex material can be obtained at any fabric store. As for the vanishing cloth exact fabric don't know. Hope you are doing something different and not the same. Good Luck! |

Well I would have thought my last comment gave away that I WAS NOT copying him and before anyone else jumps on here, I have no plans to copy Copperfield or any other magician for that fact. I believe in ethics very much and always go through all copyright issues and never purchase or perform anything that is not from a correct builder etc.
But this does raise an issue just for my own curiosity now, does this mean ANY vanish performed fast with a cloth needs Pendragons rights? Thanks for your help Lucas |

That particular flash vanish was worked on by DC with John Pendragon. John Pendragon orginally used this vanish for his artist dream version. You can see his version performed on the champions of magic 1 or you can see it on you tube done by Jay Owenhouse or Steve Wyrick. It is there original technique. Sorry I did not imply that you where doing anything unethical. Just giving the info I know.

Well now that you have me interested I took the time to look up the videos and find this all very interesting, because I have seen many magicians some known, some unknown perform a flash vanish like that and wonder now if they have permission. Thanks for that info, now if someday I do decide to do something like I will known to contact Jonathan.
Now back to the fabric. Anyone? Thanks Lucas |

The material in Voyeur looks like it could be white silk. I'm sure that Bob Sanders or Richard Hughes could shed some light on it.

Hey everyone,
I also thought it might be some kind of silk being it seemed lightweight and fell slowly. It also seems familiar to the dropped VIVA cloth at 3:58 in this Coldplay video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OaPDLokLyD4 Any ideas? If this is silk does anyone know a good place to get large amounts of seamless silk? Thanks Lucas |

Seems like I read not too long ago on the Café that six-foot-wide silk is no longer imported (or something like that).
You might also look at some of the fabrics that marching band and drum and bugle corps flags are made from. Here is a link: http://www.thebandhall.com/scripts/prodList.asp?idCategory=5

I can get 8 momme silk in 54 inch width. It can be hemmed to make what is needed.
I do not think this is 8 momme silk. It is probably a silk blend of some type and there are plenty. I would try to find an old parachute. Richard

I looked at the clip again. It appears to be at least a 12 momme satin type fabric.
Part of the slowness of the cloth dropping is the way it thrown up. There may even be some mechanical devices to help keep the fabric aloft longer. Richard
