I have been performing Scotch and Soda for years using the Sterling version I picked up in a local magic shop almost 10 years ago. It has since worn down and the finish is getting very hazy. I was looking into the Johnson version and wondered if it really is worth the extra money for this over the Sterling set. Is Johnson really that much better made?

Having owned and used both, the Johnson is definitely superior. Well worth the money.

That's the one (Johnson)I use and love it. Wouldn't use anything else.

Received it today. Very nice. Only thing that disapointed me is there was no Centavo with it. Oh well. Placed an order for one, should get it next week.

On another note. What is the benifit to the Magnetic version. The effects all seem to be the same wether you get the regular or a magnetic scotch and soda. What rutines can you do differently?

The magnetic version will nest if things are near, the regular needs some force to nest. OTOH the normal will stand considerable scrutiny, the magnetic will be loose. I have both and use the regular set more. The magnetic set allows routines like coin through glass.

Hmmmmm, that is odd, I believe you should have gotten a matching Centavo. I'd give the shop that sold it to you a call. SETH

AFAIK Johnson does not include a centavo with S&S.

I already placed an order through Penguin Magic to get a new Centavo. No loss.

Make sure it not the cheaper "copia"(copy)version .. as that's whats stamped across the front and its copper. I believe Johnson quite including it when brass sky rocketed.

Johnson uses real centavos. Sterling uses the "copias"

The value to magicians is much more that the numismatic value. It has been out of circulation for many years. When you visit coin shops, look for them.
The copias (COPY) is wording required by law since you are making a copy of a circulated coin.
