I remember once thinking that part of Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb was 'there is no pain, you are a ceiling'.

The Troggs "Wild Thing' has only like 10 lines, but I had trouble with "I wanna know for sure"! At first I thought it was "I don't want no horse show". But then I thought "no, it can't be that, it must be 'I don't want no floor show!'" Funny thing... I performed it often (all 4 chords, and most definitely not like Hendrix) and was never called on it! Perhaps it was the loud Twin Reverb amp, perhaps it was the awful microphone feeding back, or perhaps it was the drugs! But I never realized the mistake until I saw the lyrics in print many years later! Lynn

That's funny, Lynnef! But I'm curious about that 4th chord ....

As a guitarist, with enough feedback, you really don't need that 4th chord if you just slide (OR BEND) the 6th string up 2 frets. In other words, it sounds like a 4th chord with all the noise. I'm still curious about how Hendrix could make it into a masterpiece. Lynn |

Gotcha. I had a rather straight-laced friend in high school who got to travel to Europe with his family and saw The Jimmy Hendrix Experience in a small London club. He told me the band was so incredibly loud, and coupled with a strobe light flicking in time to the music, it was so unsettling, he threw up!

To side-track just a little longer ... Wild Thing was written by Chip Taylor, who is the actor John Voight's brother. Chip also wrote Angel Of The Morning, which uses the same 3 chords as Wild Thing in the main part of the song.
