Magiguy - how about a post on Eugene's lecture? Would be most interested in reading about not only what he taught but what you found to be most useful.

Glad to read you thought it was terrific........

Hi Tony!
Not the most thorough summary, but here you go...

The theme of the lecture was "Putting a Show Together.” He started out with a performance, demonstrating:
1. Shotglass Surprise
2. Haunted Deck (Al Baker’s Pack That Cuts Itself)
3. Haunted Hank (Glorpy)
4. Thought Sender
5. Card Warp (“The Inquisition”)
6. Influence
7. Gypsy Thread (“Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva”)

Some key topics of the lecture:
1. Every trick should be about something.
2. Premise takes precedent over story.
3. The importance of staying in character, “in the moment.”
4. Choosing openers, middle tricks and closers.
5. Defining your character (the tone/mood of your closing effect will define your character in the eyes of the audience).

Thoughts regarding walk-around performance:
“When you stand at a table you are an outsider to the group you are performing for. When you sit at the table with them you become part of the group.”

My favorite quote from the lecture:
“You can judge a magician by how well he covers his mistakes” – Channing Pollock

Best news flash:
Burger and Neale are preparing to re-release an updated version of “Magic & Meaning” in the near future.
