Actually, it already happened...
Atlanta being largely populated with people who aren't from here, we have always had Thanksgiving among our friends who could not make it home to spend the holiday with their families. We usually take turns hosting. In 2004, one of our friends hosted at her home. She was attending Agnes Scott College for her Master's degree. Many of her classmates could not make it home for the holiday, so they were invited, as was our dog, Scout.(This is an important detail.) Now, Agnes Scott, being an all-female college, tends to attract women of a certain sexual orientation. An orientation that I have no problem with, as I cannot see how I could possibly be affected by it, if you get my drift. However, that attitude was CLEARLY not shared by the attendees from Agnes Scott. As soon as we walked in, the temperature dropped about 40 degrees. By a fluke, this year I was the ONLY male attendee. We were the only married couple. My wife is a babe, therefore: I was the Lightning Rod of Hate! Dinner was, shall we say, a bit tense. I have a penchant for stirring up trouble with the overly-sensitive wherein I am very amused, but everyone else is furiously angry. Knowing this, after dinner I fled to the empty basement rec-room for a round of video games. My wife held her own until our friend asked, "Where's Dave? Is he okay?" To which one of the other women responded; "I'm sure he's fine. After all, there are other dogs here." After a moment of stunned silence, one of our other friends exclaimed; "Oh my God!" in her heavy Boston accent. I clearly heard her in the basement. My wife came into the basement and asked if there was any reason for us to hang around. I said no, and we collected our pumpkin pie and our dog and went home. She told me what the commotion had been when we were safely (for them) on the freeway home. Although it's very funny in retrospect, 2004 will always be known as the "Angry Lesbian Thanksgiving" |

DeadDave,
You killed me with that story. It brought back a memory of mine. I live half way across the country from all of my family. Four years ago I spent Thanksgiving with a friend of mine that I went to Highschool with who lived just a few hours away from me by chance. We used to raise cain back in the day. Now we are all grown up, he's a Dr. I'm a professional entertainer. I had a lovely dinner with him and his family. After the kids went to bed we decided to go find a bar to have a beer. His wife stayed at home and we set out. Couldn't find a single one open. Finally we see neon bar lights and pull into a strip mall. We walk in and right there by the door is a pool table so all the attention is on the pool table SO all eyes quickly went to us. I did not know why and felt the heat, glaring. I kept my head straight to my target, a bar stool, and sat down with my back to the room. My friend sits down next to me and says something like "Man, did you feel that?" It takes about five minutes for the female bartender to walk five feet to us and ask us what we wanted to drink. I'm still keeping my head down and not looking around. (I try to fly under the radar) My buddy does look arournd and suddenly says "Dude, I think were in a Dick Van Dyke bar. I look up, into the bar mirror, and can clearly see the whole room. We were the only two guys in the joint yet we looked less manly than anyone. And looking back now we could have looked like a couple ourselves. Wearing our nice holiday sweaters and nice jeans. We had our beer and took off. After all these years we still get into trouble even when we try not to. |

I was hesitant to say anything for the hopes of it not happening, but my sister, and she did. Again. My parents have now decided to have us home on separate days.

I'm not sure if this moment ruined the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, or made it better!

Nothing ruined (my family is easy going) but... My mother-in-law is a great cook. She cooked the turkey for 7 hours. It was a huge bird, and she was concerned that it wasn't getting cooked. After some investigation, she realized the oven was set to broil. I now have a fridge with 18 or so, pounds of turkey jerky.
