At least we can rest assured that when Ricky did his stage show it wasn't close up since he is known as an escape artist and illusionist....
Bitterman, you wouldn't be in the same room as I at a party. Plastic Destiny would be though. |

Anybody remember Ricky Jay's appearance in X-files?
But back to the topic: It seems to me that Ricky Jay performs Close-up on stage. When I look at clips on Y.T. most of the card effects are performed at a table situated up on stage. However, he does do other things of course: Check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hgm4wZCACYg

I'm keeping notes....
Ricky Jay is not a close up guy. I take it Max Maven isn't a mentalist and Copperfield isn't an illusionist? |

Hugh Jackman is 6 foot 1. Houdini was about 5 foot 5. Wolverine is 5 foot 6.
I guess he likes to play short characters

Bio:
"Ricky Jay (born Richard Potash in Brooklyn, New York, 1948) is an American actor and professional sleight-of-hand artist. Jay is known for his signature card tricks, card throwing, feats of memory, and inimitable stage patter. At least two of his shows, "Ricky Jay and His 52 Assistants," and "On the Stem," were directed by David Mamet, who has cast Jay in a number of his films. He has also appeared films by other directors, notably Boogie Nights. When not performing, he collects rare books and artifacts, has worked with libraries and museums on their collections, and is the author of several books such as "Learned Pigs and Fireproof Women" and a newsletter. Up until recently Ricky Jay was listed in the Guinness Book of Records for throwing a playing card 190 feet at 90 miles per hour (the current record is 216 feet, by Rick Smith, Jr.). He can throw a playing card into a watermelon rind (which he refers to as the "thick, pachydermatous outer melon layer" of "the most prodigious of household fruits") from ten paces. Mr. Jay created a consulting firm called "Deceptive Practices," which provides "Arcane Knowledge on a Need-To-Know Basis." Among his firm's clients are the stage, television and film industries." BTW, My old friend Bill Kalush is not an escape artist either. Does that mean he had no business publishing a book on Houdini?

Why - do you suspect modern audiences will get restless waiting for half an hour while he escapes behind a screen?
Ye of little faith. I hope they do the needles as Houdini did though, with the drumbeat - I like the theatrics of that. Destiny |

Yeah! Those too! Those four together would make a substantive framework for the entire play, for sure.
