My recent experiments in mummification have allowed me to reproduce a hideously realistic human head -
http://i34.tinypic.com/2ep6i47.jpg It looks so realistic that I have had to hide it from house guests, the cleaner, door to door Jehovah's witnesses etc. It seems a shame to let a prop with so much bizarre magic potential as this to go to waste so here's a quick question for you to ponder... The empty brain cavity of a human skull is quite large and can theoretically house quite a bit of technological wizardry. If you could make this head 'do something strange' what would it be? I've already started another prototype which has a 30 second sampling unit (whisper in his ear and he will repeat phrases, screams, moans etc), a vibration unit (for movement and shivering action) and a silent fan in the mouth for blowing out candles, making flames flicker etc, all controlled by RC I hasten to add. Can you think of anything else and do you have any routine ideas involving heads? Regards Dan Lebanon Circle |

There's always the ubiquious three-way-out with three of the heads?

If its for fun - all sortsa things - BUT if using this for serious magic effects - you need to have the top of the head cut so people could peer into what appears to be an empty cavity - or have a duplicate head.... otherwise people likely will just say "Its a gimmicked head!" - hence why I use a crystal skull versus a regular skull for some effects... its got to be examinable somehow IMHO

Bone conductive messaging (via a walkie talkie) would be a real freakout.....

It would be cool to have a spectator touch the back of the head somewhere there is mummified skin (perhaps on the pretext of getting psychometric impressions) and have them suddenly feel movement as though some insect is moving around under the flesh.

I see your point Dr Spektor.
If we were to leave the technological approach to one side for a moment then would you think a floating head ( in either a seance cloth or floating table style) would be a worthwhile venture? A certain amount the the electrickery could still be retained with an empty brain cavity so a moaning, vibrating floating head is still a possibility... |

Could you not house it in the teeth/jaw area - all that technology I mean?
it would be nice to see one eye suddenly or slowly rip itself open...and stare at someone/something... as well as gasp a word... maybe a tiny hidden camera, that'll let you remote view from a dead man's eye? You know what I've always wanted? a haunted bakerlite radio from the 20s... You can hear a strange out of tune voice through the white noise, revealing thoughts, names, words...then in comes some old 20s dance hall tune...fading in and out...
I've asked to be banned

Heck buy Spirit FX from Dan, Iain !!!
Yeah - a floating head would be cool! Also, an eye that can rotate under a lid that when opens, reveals a spec's choice of a symbol etc. Also, it emitting a SCREAM when needed for SPOOK SHOW SHOCK!!! value

Okay, this is so good brother that if you produce it, you owe me.
How about some narrow range sound emission so only one person can hear? Using information obtained by your favorite devious method, clip board, billets, miking, etc. Imagine doing kind of a daylight seance where you ask the dead person for a message and someone susceptible to psychic manifestation hears him just like he were talking aloud but no one else does. You ask them to repeat what the deceased said said and the spectator reveals something they couldn't possibly know. They will spend the evening afterwords trying to reconcile how come they heard it and no one else did.

I believe a loooong time ago I remember seeing a "Tales from the Crypt" starring Austin Pendleton (who else?) as a coroner who searched so diligently for the life "light" that he would hack up all of the corpses in his lab. This brings the idea that the soul of the body is but a tiny little, yet tangible, light.
If the top of the head were to be hinged as Dr. S suggested... I would see it as a great opportunity to merge the head with the Corpse Candle effect. After, maybe, spirit contact had been made (say after Clifford's great suggestion) but before the lights were brought up fully... what if the spirit light "left" the corpse as if its earthly business had been completed? Afterwards letting out a horrifyingly pleasant "sigh" as if its labors of limbo were finally over? Just a thought.
Things are about to change........ LIGHTS!!!
