I did a search for Kitchener IBM and here is the list of publicly listed members:
(my apologies for posting this - but this is a public lits of members and I am offended that anyone would be so rude as Mr. Brett Taylor) John Poole Mike Olender Romaine Darryl Hutton Mark Pallin Johnathan Anstett Robert Barna Mark Baluk John Buitendyk Joan Caesar Gerard Dietrich Derick Finn Barry Flood John Graham Ray Good Peter Marucci Joseph Hartley Richard Herfurth Rick Hillier Darryl Hutton Ryan Joyce Ash Khan Doug Kuhn Annette Kuhn Mike Olender Tristian O'Malley Mark Pallin John Poole Max Scott Sophia Szilagyi Roman Szydlowski Brett Taylor So what you are saying is everyone on this list is medicore at best, including Ryan Joyce - who has his own travelling show, YOURSELF who is on the list and also the PRESIDENT of the IBM ? I personally have met two of the members on this list and know they are more than competent magicians. Being a great magician is not a prerequisite for joing the IBM, it is a group of people that share the same hobby, some amateur and some proffessionals. For you to say that the Kitchener IBM is not worth joining is an insult to the enitre institution. sorry ... but that is how I feel |

Sorry that was wrong to say...
It just bothers me when I hear people put others down, their passion for magic may be the same or greater BUT they do not deserve to be put down just because they are new to the hobby or not as good as someone else. I am fairly new to magic, and if someone spoke about me the way Mr. Taylor speaks of these other magicians, I would probably put my cards away and go back to model railroading. |

As a past president of ring 235, it is very disappointing to hear a past member put down other magicians, some who lectured in Europe , and toured in New Zealand, some who have had books published in England, New York and Australia. In any magic club there are members who love magic but perform very little, some are totally professional and do tours internationally, some are retired and considered semi pros. We have tried to have lecturers that cater to all magical tastes , even including cards, Lenert Green as an example. Some magicians , hopefully very few judge all magicians by their skill at handling cards and nothing else matters. If you don't don't do intricate and complicated moves with cards , you are not are part of their reality. I love all magicians, even the person who always performs the same trick and even the person too shy to perform. They all have their place in the I.B.M and all of our members put forth their best efforts to make everyone feel at home. Sometimes not winning in competitions can make some magicians feel bitter or hold grudges. But in my humble opinion, I appreciate every person who attends, no matter what their shortcomings are and no matter what the negative comments are, life is to short to be always looking for the negative traits in others. I am willing to forget and forgive any comment said in anger or in frustration. Every person in our club brings joy, some mystery, and a smile to the face of someone every day. So I say lets build up magic and magicians, elevating magic from the midway to the Milkway.

There are only 14 tickets left for the upcoming Battle of the Magicians at the Waterloo Theatre in Waterloo. The last couple of battles have been fantastic and this boom being held in a larger, more professional venue promises to be even better. Hope to see you there. It promises to be a fun-filled , magical time for all who attend.

Guys,
This is the last thing I'm going to say on this topic. First of all, I do like everyone at the ring and respect the magic they do, however it is not my taste and this is purely difference of opinion. Second, I have said the magicians were bad, but I was comparing them to some of the guys in Toronto and some pros I've met and jammed with. Romaine is a fantastic magician and manipulator, Ryan Joyce does have a traveling show and is very successful and I respect that but I am not a fan. I feel that the club is trying to stay with the traditional "style" of magic and right now, I don't think magic needs that. I think magic needs to move forward, and from MY experience, I have not seen that from the ring. Third, Just like I previously stated, right now, FOR ME, this ring is not advancing my knowledge, skills or creativity with magic and I felt the need to step back and analyze. I may have said these guys are not the best but that is probably because I have jammed with and learned from some of the top guys in the world over the past 20 years. My standards might just be too high, and I do realize that. I apologize for some of the comments I have said, and realize many came out wrong (i stay up way too late sometimes) but I am not making excuses. I said those things and can't take them back, but the way I feel is written above. I do not hate magic or magicians and I love to jam and support guys. Feel free to PM me and say whatever you want to. I'd love to talk magic. I am not the "be all end all", ever seen Glenn West??. He might just take it. bt |
