I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this but. When you work on stage do you normally have a "stage name"??

Never did go with the stage name thing. Although some of the crowds I worked very early on I was called a lot of things but none I would have used as a stage name. Smile I go to see a magic show I want to know the name of the performer, although there are alwyas exceptions. Do you have a stage name?

I usually perform as myself and use my own name. "The Amazing Earl" is one of my characters and he receives his own billing.

However, I will admit to using a pseudonym in the past when working certain venues in my younger days. Sometimes anonymity is comforting...and wise.

It really is up to you as an enytertainer whether you wnat to use your name as a stage name or something else. some folks choose to change it to make it easier for folks to recall. My lats name is always mispronounced so we changed our stage name to make it very easy for people to recall at all times.

My wife and I are Kyle and Kelly Peron (last name is not pronopunced like Evita Peron)

So we changed it to "The Magical Illusions of Kyle and Kelly". Just using our first names is so easy for people to recall. I also can prove this as my website states clearly show people finding us online with searches under kyle and kelly magic.

To be honest, I've never like the sound of my name. It's too abrupt and doesn't roll off the tongue when said out loud. But it's me. So, instead of changing my name, I've tried to analyze it in detail. What type of personality does the name invoke? Which of those personality traits do I actually have? Can I exaggerate them to create a performing personna that fits the name and the image? So instead of changing my name to fit a character, I created the character to fit my name. That was much easier since the character I created was simply an exaggeration of my existing personality traits. Hope that makes sense.

Yep ... three of them, actually. An idea I got from Karrell Fox. A different performance name for the different shows. I wanted to lessen the confusion between, for example, kids' shows and hypnosis programs. As Karrell did, I am the "manager" of each performing personna. I know, seems a little psychotic, but it works!

Kyle, I am glad you cleared up your name for me. We have never met, but I always pronounced it that way.
Dan, that is a good idea, and one I am sure is used a lot more than we think. I knew a man in Calif. when I lived there that did a routine in his act, and he called himself, during the routine, "The Great Hankini". On the playbill, that part was actually listed as a separate performer.
Kent, that makes sense to me, and your name is fine to me. I did look through some really old stuff I had in a box in my closet and realized I did have a stage name at one time. When I was married, my wife and I did a 20 min. act as "Soo Loo Yen and Tinsi Lee". Wow, does that bring back memories.

My fiance, Kyle, has an interesting story with his name. His full name is Tyler Kyle Knight, and I, as well as his friends and family, know him as Tyler. For years, he used his name, Tyler Knight, onstage until we found out that there is a gay porn star named "Tyler Knight" and is all over the Web. He even sells a few "devices" with the world "magic" in their title! Needless to say, we didn't want to be associated with those things. So for the last 4 years, he has been using his middle name, Kyle, for stage. It's actually been pretty easy for me to call him Kyle in work situations, and Tyler any other time. I joke that it's fun for me to come home and tell my fiance "Tyler" about my boss "Kyle"! It has definitely proven to be a good decision because his name recognition has increased significantly since he's been going by Kyle Knight.

And for the record, my name is real too! People always ask if "Mistie" is a stage name. My given name is Mistie Williams, and after we get married, I'll be "Mistie Knight". Who could ask for a better name for a magic show?

Happy Holidays,
Mistie

Back in the 1960s, when my dad was a manager at the Magic Castle and I was about 12 years old, everyone’s favorite guru was Dai Vernon. Everyone called him by his nickname, the Professor, and the Professor had a nick-name for me… “Spill,” short for my real last name, Spillman. He said he dropped the “man” because I was a “boy.” The nick-name stuck and eventually became my legal name.

Ok, now there has got to be more on here. I want to hear more stage names. I love some of them so far. Funny story, Mistie. I know this is off the original post, LilJohnMagic, but what is your stage name, if you have one?

I don't have a stage name yet. 'Cause I never had an opportunity to work on a big stage. (I'm 15, so I guess I have plenty of time. Smile ) But when I will, I guess I'll go with something original, never used before like... Slidini, Hudini or Carter the Great. (j/k)
But seriously, I don't plan to have a stage name, I'll stay Arthur Zep. Smile

And that is what will work for you, too. You have a made a big step there. You have stated that you are you and you have your own style, so that is who you are.

Well, sorry for the long delay. I got sidetracked by a few things. So, the answer is simple for me. My case is the exact same as Arthur, and no, I don't think I will ever have a stage name. I used to think "The Mystifier," but then I looked at the magic that I COULD do, and it did not fit me at all, and then I found out it's being used by a man in San Diego. John McKinney is my name today, tomorrow and forever.

When I first started out, I went through several names - Magic Bob, Bob the Magician, Mysticle Bob - but none of those really fit in with the comedy type of show I have. Then, about 10 years ago, I called in on an oldies Rock and Roll radio station trivia contest. And somehow, my feeble mind came up with the correct answer and I won a T-shirt and received a doctorate in rock trivia. For a while after that, everyone called me Doctor. It was my older brother that came up with the idea of calling myself Dr. Delusion for the show, and it stuck. So now, my show's known as Dr. Delusion's Illusion's Comedy Magic Show.
Bob.
