I've started to work on a credit card and coins routine I would like to do and am looking for some references/inspiration on technique from existing routines. Productions, vanishes and changes of coins using a credit card. Gaffed or ungaffed. Anyone have some suggestions for such routines/tricks to look into?

Mike Gallo does a very nice production of 4 coins from a credit card in the new DVD set from the New York Coin Seminar guys. The handling has a graceful, magical look to it.
Otherwise, it might be interesting to vanish coins "into" your credit card, ala Roth's Portable Hole. An apparent result of the current credit vacuum, or just visual confirmation that your credit "sucks". Or maybe your coins vanish into a Debit card, and appear under/out of a Credit card?

Do you ever get cash from your debit card?
Do you use the card that pays you back?

Thanx for the input, Curtis. I actually want to both produce coins directly from the card, and later return them to the card for safe keeping.

I have done my Coin thru Card with a credit card before. You might try it like that from my Short Pockets offering.

What about a matrix style routine? Also, Josh Jay has an effect called Vegas Visit, I believe... May be worth looking at.

Thanx for the suggestions. I actually have an idea of what I want to do and the basics of how I want it to look. I'm more out looking for different techniques people have been using that could fit into the effects and presentational framework I have in mind. To that end, I'm interested in any and all things done with (credit)cards and coins.

Dan Fleshman published a very pretty production of four coins from under a card or a purse as it's flopped/rolled across the table. It's in one of his early books.

You ever thought about pulling several coins from a credit card one at a time? It will require the right palm. The credit card can be shown freely all over while you pull the coins from the card. You might want to pull a bill from the card at the end.

Dynamike, that's exactly what I'm thinking for the first phase.

That ain't bad.
Maybe you have some reference for any routine like that that you know of? |

To expand a bit on what I'd like to do if possible is to show the card freely, pull 3 similar coins from it, change them into some other (preferably 3 different) currencies, and then put them back in the card for safe keeping. A tall order...

I never tried a routine doing it before, so I am just going to scan thru with an idea.
Show the card freely, rotating it with your right hand. (It will be a little better in the right. I will tell why later.) The same time, a coin is in the Tenkai Pinch of the same hand. It can be produced later or maybe as the first one. Coins can be waiting to appear being palmed in your left. Pull each coin from the card with the left hand as the right hand holds the card. It looks better and natural because everyone reads from left to right. Maybe the Tenkai Pinched coin can be produced from behind the card with one hand. |

I'm thinking you may be able to use some methods used in one of the commercial "Twilight" mirror routines for productions.
You might also look into some purse frame routines for inspiration. Perhaps pretending that the CC has a flap where money is kept. |

Thanx for the heads up on Twilight Jaz, I'll check into that (got a reference online somewhere?). Purse frame routines could definately include things that could be adapted to accomplish the effects I'd like to create, as well as Roths Portable hole and Flash production. I also once saw something where a coin very cleanly penetrated straight through a card into the spectators hands which has elements that would fit in nicely. Forgot the name of that though. Moneywise, I'm thinking a hopping half set could be used together with one or two half dollars to help with both production/vanish as well as changes.
Thanx for the input everyone:) |
