If there is not a "Gala" show maybe it would be prudent to remove it from the incomplete schedule. I think it is misleading.

Just responding to this post saying that there was "nothing on the website" regarding the gala show, when clearly it was on the schedule.
I agree, if there is not going to be a "Gala" show, then the schedule shouldn't say "Gala". If there is going to be a "Public Show" then perhaps it should say "Public Show". If there is going to be a "Parlor Show" then it should say that. I don't think the general convention registraints care if it's at the hotel or at a high school or at the Koger Center. The price for this convention is still lower than comparable conventions in the Southeast. I can understand why they would want to do a scaled down Gala show this year. With the economy where it is, I wouldn't expect the general public to buy that many tickets to a magic show. |

This is clearly not a Gala show. If it said so on the website then I would expect to see a Gala show. I find it hard to find very much "clear" on the website since it lacks completion. Case in point, it says workshops on the schedule also, there is nothing else about workshops anywhere. Are there really going to be workshops, by whom, how much? If you pay your money you have a right to know what you are getting. The price may be lower than comparable conventions but not by much, and I would argue that you are getting less.

Question for the SCAM officers. Does SCAM have to be in Columbia every year? Can the guys from Myrtle Beach have it one year? Just curious if it always have to be in the same place. You have Ron Conley, David Tanner, myself (Michael Bairefoot), Roman Lepree and a host of others that I think that could put on a great SCAM. Now that sounds funny.LOL. Sorry almost forgot about the Seaside Showman.

Merry Christmas. In this season of hope and happiness let us try to be angels (messengers of God) by showing our love for one another. See you at the convention.

Merry Christmas to all as well. I do think Bairefoot has made an interesting suggestion. This is suppose to be the S.C. Assoc. of Magicians but it seems one group has controlled the "works". It might not be a bad idea to let others try their hand. New energy and enthusiasm might be the ticket. I just don't feel the energy and dedication this year. Myrtle Beach does have some advantages in facilities over Columbia. Nothing personal but it would serve everyone better to be more inclusive rather than exclusive.

I just clicked on the website and got the following message:
" The website you have requested is currently under maintenance. It will be back online by 00:00 EST. " I trust that the SCAM committee has finally provided the webmaster with all the information necessary to fully inform us as to what to expect besides just a list of talent and dealers. Maybe it will include lecture schedules and complete information about the show when it is finally reposted. I hope so since there are some lectures that I definately would want to attend ... Kyle,
Consider it done! I spoke with him this morning. Bob PS --- The doors are now open at SCAM 2009. Come say, "Howdy!" My neighbor in the Dealers' Room is Mark Mason. We expect to have a whole lot of fun. (I'm teaching him "Southern English". Y'all look for a big difference!) |

That's funny, Southern fried Mason. How's the turn out?

Well, I never completely taught Mark "Southern English" but I'll get another shot at it at Magi Fest, I think. He was a great neighbor to have in the SCAM Dealers' Room. We had fun. We are still separated by a common language: English! Maybe I could get Mark to spend some time in Alabama? Y'all got any ideas?
Kyle, I delivered your message to Eric. We'll catch him down the road again somewhere. Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |

Mark's always a great guy to have as a neighbor. No one works a crowd better. I don't think he's ever going to learn Southern though. Hopefully you guys didn't take too hard of a hit from the turnout.
