Victor Borge was one of the funniest human beings that ever lived. I saw some of his old stuff on a PBS fund drive, last night.
Words can't describe his Genius! |

I feel very blessed to have seen him live at the Paramount theater in Oakland in 83 or 84 had been a big fan of his for years before that. He Was Hysterical!! one of my all time favorites.( could have been 82 I forget)

I was fortunate to see Borge live about 15 years ago at the Hollywood Bowl, also met him briefly after the show. He had a hilarious, conversational style that made him one of my favorites.
Penn or Teller, forget which, told me 25 years ago that Borge had the type of notability they desired. Well-known enough to do what you want and make a good living, not-so-well-known that you weren't free to move in society without being mobbed. |

Can anyone give his real name? (Without using Google, of course.)

That's what I love about the off topic section, I come across people that I may of never come across, I am so glad I came across Victor Borge, he has really had me in stitches, and I'm not easy to please. He tells a lot of old jokes very well every one of them perfectly executed and suited, true to his character.

If you have never seen it, look for the clip from the Muppets show where he played Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata"...

If this doesn't make you laugh, you ain't got no funny bone.
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=N7L02tCNi0I&feature=related This is also the kind of sophisticated humor that today's world no longer has a use for. The double entendre--as an art form--is dead. Anyone can be as vulgar as he wants to be. |

One of Borga's great bits. I saw him at the Opera House in San Francisco. He was, as usual doing a ONE MAN SHOW... He commented that the union required 30 or so musicians be hired, even though they didn't appear. He then said, "It is my Birthday, I'd like them to play. Open the back curtain." The back curtain opened and there they were 30 musicians sitting around, playing cards, talking, etc. He yelled at them to get theier instruments... they did... he then asked them to play Happy Birthday. They did. That was it, curtain closed and he went on with the show. My guess is he did that every night. What a great gag.
When I was 19 years old and doing shows in the Army, in Europe, I did an impresson of him and did the PHONETIC PUNCTUATION routine.

That's impossible he couldn't make people laugh, he didn't use the "F" word once.
All that musical talent and intelligence overshadowed by comic genius, he was great!
Our friends don't have to agree with me about everything and some that I hold very dear don't have to agree about anything, except where we are going to meet them for dinner.
