Hi everybody,
For those of you who know, Jim Steinmeyer was and maybe is still working as a consultant for Disney Imagineering. Does anybody know on which attractions he worked on and what he brought out for them? Just wondering. Thanks. Oliver. |

I believe the Haunted Mansion and also two Disney shows, Mary Poppins and Beauty and The Beast (in the least!).

Any idea what Jim did on the Haunted Mansion? I haven't noticed anything different about it over the years. Thanks, Gerry |

I believe a lot of Jim Steinmeyer's work involved show scripting, especially in the early Epcot days as well as his input into effects. I understand he put a clever optical effect in the Who Framed Roger Rabbit ride, which I don't think is in operation anymore. I think it was based on a solid rotating hypnotic spiral that turned into a tunnel which the ride then flowed into...this is all from memory, so please jump in if I am mistaken here.

Jim has (or did) work(ed) for Disney for many years!! I believe he may have been involved with the actual development of the attraction.

I know he worked on the original Fantasmic show. I seem to remember that he engineered the dragon, amongst other things.
He also designed illusions for Beauty and the Beast and Mary Poppins on Broadway. |

Jim directed a show called "Food Rocks" that was in the EPCOT Land Pavilion. It has been closed for years and was located where the Soarin' ride is now. The effect in Roger Rabbit Cartoon Spin ride is still there at Disneyland. At the end of the ride, Roger places a portable hole on the wall and you drive through it. Basically, it is a mirror tunnel. It isn't very deceptive actually, though it does look pretty cool. I don't think he worked on the Haunted Mansion at all, but in his lecture, "The Science Behind the Ghost," he devotes a portion to the Haunted Mansion ballroom scene.
Thanks, Richard |

He designed all the illusions for "Disney Live! Mickey's Magic Show," a touring show for Feld Entertainment.
***Side note*** He is working on Feld Entertainment's all magic themed 139th edition of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey right now. Where yesterday, we debuted a surrounded vanish of a 4 ton elephant!!!! |

Pete, that would be too easy and take away from any rumors or speculation!

Since 1987, Jim has worked as a Concept Designer and Consultant/Concept Design for Walt Disney Imagineering, the creative development division for the Walt Disney Company's theme parks. In this capacity he is responsible for overall concepts for rides and attractions, as well as show outlines and scripts. Some of his work can be seen in the Toontown attraction for Disneyland, the upcoming second gate in Anaheim, and the redesigned EPCOT presentations in Orlando, Florida, where he has specialized in combining educational messages with entertaining shows. In 1994 The Land Pavilion, at EPCOT, opened with new shows written and produced by Jim. One, "Food Rocks," is a complete rock concert on the merits of good nutrition. Quote: DISNEY MAGIC

Thanks to all for the replies.
To explain my request a little bit further, I was looking more or less for a list of the attractions he worked on and what exactly he worked on for each attraction. Pete, I had a look at his web, but it's not enough detailed to me. Maybe I should send him a mail... Personally, I thought of the Hollywood Tower of Terror attraction, 'specially when you look into a deep space night with all the glimmering stars around sitting in the elevator. It looks like a Pepper's Ghost version. Oliver. |
