Santa,
"...my attack." You clearly must be overworked from all of mall performances that you had to endure this past month. I sympathize with you. I criticize the merits or lack thereof of a book and people like yourself and Tony criticize me personally? That sounds like adult behaviour don't you think? In response to the criticism about the book I've made he questions my performing ability, is able to cast me in an appropriate panto. This isn't adult dialogue this is evidence of folks who engage in electronic bullying to ensure that there point is agreed upon. Pick up any contemporary book from Samuel Patrick Smith, David Ginn, Silly Billy and you will find material that is much more appropriate to the modern conjurer. My offer of a free book to anyone who'd like it still remains and yet no one has taken me up on it. jeff |

Oh...I thought you were apologizing to Tony and I.
On a serious note. No one, other than seemingly yourself, believes that one should take the presentations and present them as written some sixty years ago. It isn't like someone revised the book as they did the Hardy Boys series and failed to notice the dated material and make it more acceptable to todays morals and sensativities. I, and I'm sure everyone else, would agree that the routines are dated as are those in Tarbell and Greater Magic. I doubt anyone would present the routines as written today but that does not make the authors 'racist', a word so misdefined that it has no real meaning any longer other than as a threat. I also want to say that I wouldn't lift any of Smith, Ginns, or Silly Billys routines verbatim either....then again I have the capability to write a magic show and to take effects and make my own routines out of them. Others, ahem, seem not to be able to do so and thus must search to find routines they can do as written because they have no real choice. I've seen people recommend that the first couple chapters on the philosophy of performing and how to approach it (performing for kids) in the book. I've never seen anyone suggest performing the routines as written. So wave your fist in the air all you want, at best you are mearly excercising your arm. |
