Here are some basic tips on how to keep your Expanded Shell in its best condition:
1. When not using the Expanded Shell, always keep it over a regular coin. This will ensure the Expanded Shell does not lose it's shape. 2. If a coin gets stuck in the Expanded Shell, DO NOT shake it inside a glass. That will only damage the coin more. Buy a Bang Ring and use that to take the coin out. 3. Try not to drop the coin, that will damage the Expanded Shell . 4. If the Expanded Shell has a small dent in it, use a wooden dowell to re-round the edge of the Expanded Shell. You can also put a coin inside the Expanded Shell, and roll it on a hard surface. Then use a Bang Ring to get the coin out of the Expanded Shell. 5. To further expand your Expanded Shell, put a dollar bill over the mouth side of the Expanded Shell. Then push an English Penny inside the Expanded Shell. Pull out the English Penny using the dollar bill or use a Bang Ring. In my experience, this is what I have found: Todd Lassen > Schoolcraft > Johnson Magic > Tango Magic > Sasco Those are the main coin gaffers, but there are many other custom guys. Had my first stuck shell the other day, and it was really stuck good.
I took the coin into the kitchen, got a piece of ice, placed the face of the coin itself on the ice while pressing down lightly on the top surface of the shell with my fingers. The ice made the coin cold, shrinking it slightly, my fingers on the shell kept it warm, .......... ta-da, off as easy as you please. Took about a minute or two to come off, and no damage at all to coin or shell. |

IF one does not have a bang ring you can use a plastic tumbler to shake the coin in, The softer material will not damage the coin as glass will. Also there is "silking" a shell - use an old silk and place it between the coin and shell.

You can also use superglue. Stick something on the shell and something to the coin and draw them very carefully away from each other. Remove the glue with glue-remover.

MortenN, Won't that eventually leave a residue or make the shell softer and more likely to break?

I had remembered hearing others say to put it in a glass and shake it around, but I really didn't want to be banging my shell around in a hard glass. I thought of the ice idea, and it worked perfectly. The coin itself actuall stuck to the ice, but I didn't have to "pull" the shell off at all, it literally fell right off. Put the ice under running water, and the coin fell off the ice. |

I found this thread while searching for how to fix dings in a shell.
If you ever get a coin stuck in a shell just take a pocket knife and pry the coin out. It won't leave any marks on either coin if you're careful. Best,
