Could not find it on here but was watching Fantasio's magic lecture DVD's the other day and was wondering how he puts out the candle flames with his fingers? It doesn't look like he wets them or licks them or anything.......sorry if this is common knowledge......

I'd imagine he just reaches up and pinches it out. That's what I'd do.

If you're afraid you could always just cough a little onto your hands and then put it out, but it shouldn't be too big of a deal to put them out with your fingers.

You could have a small damp sponge where it easily accessible before touching the flame. I don't think that licking your fingers looks very professional. Just my opinion.

I don't think if there is a fear of burning fingers on a candle flame that he should even be using fire.

I am 39 years old. I know what fire is. I think it is safe for me to use a candle in my act. I was just asking a question. I am afraid of being shot too but I still do my job as a police officer.......

It also depends on where you perform at. Some venues say absolutely no fire allowed. Even if it was OK it still a liability. I use fantasio candles but I no longer light them.

I didn't mean to insult you, Bryan. Your question lead me to believe you were unfamiliar with working with fire. We often get inexperienced people here, asking questions pertaining to things where they may be getting in over their heads. Any time that involves a safety concern it raises flags with some of us.
Unfamiliarity with potentially dangerous things can lead to that person possibly panicking if something goes amiss. I'm sure you can understand, as a police officer, the need for maintaining a clear head in such a situation. Safety is never overrated. I apologized if I misunderstood.

No problem. It's just that I was asking about how to put out a small flame on a candle, not asking how to difuse a pipe bomb or anything..lol. Fantasio just puts them out with clean fingers, nothing else. I did not know if there was a trick to doing it or if I am just wrong in thinking that putting out a flame with your fingers burns you. I am going to do it, just wanted to be prepared. Thanks for your input.

If the candle burns for a long time, the little metal wick housing may get hot. Just reach up and pinch out the flame, but don't stay there, in the event the metal is hot. Don't delay or linger, just do it. The lack of oxygen will instantly extinguish the flame.

Lean over and blow 'em out as you reach to pinch.

Just do it. You will be surprised at how cool the wick is. The fuel is burning, not the wick. As long as it is not burning for a long time where it starts to blacken, it is completely safe. In fact the metal is cool, too.
It is the same concept as fire eating.

I like Pete Biro's idea the best! as a manipulator, why risk burning your main livelihood?

You won't get burned as long as the wick itself is not burning. The flame is hot, yes, but all the heat is going UP, away from the wick.
If the lighter fluid used up and the wick starts to burn, you will know. The flame will become much smaller and you will see a bit of black smoke.
