Reader Reviews: More Disappointment With Criss Angel Posted by Doug Elfman Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009 at 11:31 AM READER MAIL FROM PAUL Mr. Elfman, I had the pleasure of seeing "Believe" at Luxor this weekend, and I must say, your review of the show was lacking. Clearly, you didn't use enough R's in "terrrrrible." Of course, when faced with the unprecedented tragedy that was the show, you did the best you could. Oh yes, we definitely had comps. I can only hope the entire place was comped. Although I think I would have paid to see it. How often do you get to see the show that 1) killed theater, 2) ended Cirque and 3) will be talked about for decades in terms of, "Oh yeah. THAT show." Do you think we'll ever see the ad tag line reading, "Worst night in theater since April 1865!"? Other reviews from our group were, "Like watching the Twin Towers fall, but without all the laughs," "Like the Titanic, Hindenburg and Pearl Harbor all rolled into one, but more tragic," and "The biggest trick of the night was watching his fan base disappear." Oh, god, those poor dancers. I hope none of them left good gigs for this thing. My friend guessed there's more psychotherapists working this show that massage therapists. - Paul ELFMAN NOTE: My original review is here: http://www.lvrj.com/news/33740174.html And my preview story where I interviewed angry Angel fans is here: http://www.lvrj.com/news/29875759.html READER MAIL FROM TYLER Just read your review and I wish I had read it before I went and saw it. I saw it on January 3rd. I was excited to see it, and to say I was disappointed, would just put it mildly. Its my 4th show in Vegas and BY FAR the worste I have ever seen. 3 out of the 7 who went fell asleep. Just glad I got the military discount. -Tyler |

I am glad to see everyone reveling in the failure of another. It borders on sickness.

So where does your and Jim's Karma come into play Slim? Careful about throwing around concepts like Karma, they are a double edged blade.

I for one would like to see every review of Angel's show posted (or referenced) here, regardless of the motives of the person posting them. That goes for the positive reviews as well. I wish we were seeing more of the positive ones, but it would appear that the ratio of positive to negative is an accurate reflection of what is happening with a magician in the media. |

Don't get me wrong. I fully beleive the show is not good. I can buy the idea of him leaving. I just think it is sick, bordering on patheticlly jealous to be happy about it and find ever single article about it negative possible and put them here in some vain attempt to feel better about themself.
It really takes pathetic to a new level, and only 3 or so do it any more. Criss is what he is, and everyone either has ideas one way or the other. To publicaly revel in an aparant failure, and then claim KARMA is catching up with him, again shows a level of pathetic really. Heck I don't know Criss or have a dog in the fight. I could not stand to watch season 1 of Mindfreak let alone any more. I thought he was terrible when these guys were cheerleading him like a bunch of 15 year old girls with a crush. But I don't find pleasure in his failure. It is not good for anyone.

Criss may be a bad guy and by most accounts the show sucks. But he is still, for better or worse, a top performer in the world of magic. He has made a lot of money doing what he loves and his girlfriend is hot. If he has his health, I'd say Karma has been pretty good to him. Except there is no such thing as Karma.

I still say that Jeff McBride would be a far better fit in the shows that Cirque du Soleil produces...
