Ⓘ have a sheet of Plexiglas. Ⓘ have a CNC machine. ❷ and ❷ makes 4½. However....... Ⓘ know many EAs like wood Tcuffs because - they think- wood looks less gimmicky...
( Gimmicky: ʌəᴙᖱ. as to display something that looks gimmicked.) So here is the question, Ⓘf Plexiglas looks like a trick then how do ⓎⓄⓊ justify Flex-ties?

It could be interesting, because everybody can SEE that there's no gimmick.

You should sell plexiglass thumbcuffs and handcuffs.

Would definitely be easier to pick! Just be sure to use a soft tool so as not to scratch the insides! LOL

I've sent PMs to the posters. No reason to have an open discussion.
If you are interested in this idea please Pm me. Jay

"If Plexiglas looks like a trick then how do you justify Flex-ties?"
____________________________________________________________________________ I think FLEX-CUFFS are easily justified to an audience... Spectators see the POLICE carry & use them on a regular basis - from watching the TV news, and from watching the various reality cops programs on TV. I think the vast majority of people know basically what they are, and that the police use them. For an escape performance - Flex-Cuffs make a nice "change of pace" instead of the usual handcuffs & ropes. |

From the amount of PMs, I've received, I would say the EAs like the idea of a restraint that looks like it can not hide the modus operandi.
To be continued.

That's just a tad disingenuous don't you think? You come here posing an open question about something you have an obvious commercial interest in, and you even go to the trouble of messaging several of us without our permission.... yet when it's time to debut the product we all helped you develop we're somehow left out in the cold. I guess you need to see a checkbook in our hands before we're qualified to see this thing we helped with?
Like I said, just a tad disingenuous. Two-faced also comes to mind. Manipulative? |
jay leslie V.I.P. Southern California 9498 Posts |
I'm sorry. Are you implying that you helped me make these and you deserve one for free? Are you implying that I should send everyone a set for free. Are you a socialist?
I just sent Stan a set gratis. He deserves one. Please call him and ask how many Emails and phone calls we exchanged. All you did was write a single line, on this thread. What help is that in the manufacturing process? With how many people are going out of business, these days, you'd think someone would be happy for the little guy who is sticking in there. You would think that members of a fraternity would stick together. Please look inside yourself and ask, "Why am such an angry man"? As far as sending you an Email.... it;s not like I send them every week. When was the last Email I sent you? Probably a year and a half ago. No... You are off-base, Chance. Please take a vacation and come back when you are refreshed and have a real issue to talk about like the global economy or something of value. My little project has very little significance when compared to what's happening in the world. No one is going to beat down my doors and give me a million dollars because I can make thumb-cuffs. no one really cares except a few magicians and escape artists. But apparently there is one person who cares a bit too much. Why did this irk you so? Let's be real here Chance, You had nothing to do with helping me. Additionally, these thumb cuffs don't have a locking mechanism that can be picked so your advice was null. As far as your email goes. I will gladly drop it from my book but you are not listed as Chance. If you would kindly Email me directly jleslie@quik.com I will delete your Email without further contact. In the future would you also try to be a little more civil? I would appreciate it. There is no reason to call names... And as you wrote. I started the post in an honest attempt to get information to decide weather to make a commercial item..... Where is the cloak and dagger, in that? How is that two faced in any way? It's not like I misled you into showing me a dark secret, then published it for monitory gain. I was up an up. That's actually the opposite of disingenuous. My actions were nobel, forthright and honest. Allow me to ask the jury- Ladies and gentleman of the jury....... Do you think Chance helped me make these thumb-cuffs? Do you think Chance deserves a pair for free? If the majority feels that you helped me, I'll send you a set for free. (Sitting back awaiting the verdict)

I will pass my verdict as soon as I get my gratis pair of thumb cuffs (from either side - I would not like to be called biased). Only joking I'm not that expensive - ill do anything for a dollar.
My individual opinion (before bribes are in). Don't see a commercial product - see a guy saying "I made some - Email / pm me if you are interested". If is end you a PM I don't expect to get a free set - I expect to give you something in return for you work. I guess that would be up for negotiation. It does not seem two faced - you asked if there was interest - you got replies its not your fault if people assumed you meant you were going to send them out for free. Wasn't the second reply to your post a suggestion that you should make and sell some? I have to be honest - I don't think you have been disingenuous. Two-faced or Manipulative. And that took effort I had to look disingenuous up in the dictionary! I defenitly don't htink you were 2-faced (4 eyeed yes but not 2 facced) and didn't see any manipulation? Its the sort of discussion I can see happening at an escape artist convension or a magic convension. Would you be interested in X? you would - 2 months later X is on the market - come to that how many times you been stopped on teh street and asked "do you shave .... would you considere X y or Z" (ok sub in any other question for do you shave). Then think do thoes thousands of people asked get any reward? Often not and it is not expected people are happy to offer advice - if you don't want to give it freely - express up front that there is a contract to make etc. Or don't voleneteer. If you got an email advertising the product froma magic dealer and you don't want to get emails of hteat sort let them know - but its not really linked ot this page here. Im not on Jays email list and I have not asked him to be - so its not like he is harvesting emails from the Café and bulk mailing using them. I think Jay is inocent of the three charges (although you may have a different deffinition of disinginous who knows......) Dave |

What if I were a socialist? Is this a bad thing? And exactly how would that nullify my comments? Socialists can't have opinions as far as you're concerned?
Anyway, regarding the messaging in question, is that Jay sent ME an unsolicited PM asking me to give advice and opinions about his idea. (I take it I'm not the only one he contacted this way.) For the record, I never asked Jay for anything, ever. Not here, and not in any private messages. As for either innocence or guilt, Jay is neither. I never implied either one. What I WAS implying, and how my claim of being two-faced goes, is that when Jay wanted something of value from me (and others), he had no trouble reaching out to get it so long as it suited his needs at the moment. But he can't seem to remember us once he's got what he needs, and especially once the project is ready for sale. Noble, forthright and honest? Really? I'm just a simple farm boy from Indiana, but my granddad would have disagreed -- and so do I now. By way of comparison, if I was you I would have carefully noted down who I had contacted, and later when the item was ready I would have thanked them profusely in writing for their help, and at the very least would have sent them photos. But knowing me, I'm pretty sure I would have also offered those few people a chance (no pun intended) to buy one at cost. And I bet my reception here would have been far different than the one you're getting right now. And I also bet the reviews from those select few would snowball into future sales as well. I don't not wish you well, but as you can clearly see I'm not half bad with my words (for an Indiana farm boy.) A nice review would have been better, no? Regardless, I wish you well. Hope you sell a ton! |

I hate to get in the middle of things, but since Jay mentioned that he is sending me a pair of thumbcuffs gratis, I will throw in a few comments. I had 21 emails from Jay, and he had 21 replies from me PLUS several phone calls in the last 2 months to work out details for the thumbcuff. We also discussed some details of the machining process. I probobally own more thumbcuffs than anyone, and 30 years ago I made a set of thumbcuffs of anodized aluminum that are similar to Jays. He has added a few ideas of his own to make them his design. I volunteered my thoughts since I consider Jay a friend, and I never asked for payment or a free thumbcuff up front. I have no idea how many hours of my time were involved in this project, but If I were to charge for my 40 years of handcuff knowledge, even Jay couldn't afford me.

Looking in from the outside and not giving a toss about plastic cuffs or vibrat**s or anything else, I can see that to develope anything you have to test the water for interest first.
To me, that is all that J has done. If I were to come up with half an idea that is what I would do first,,,for many minds make light work and in this case could save a lot of wasted time. Just my 2p worth. Ken. |

Ill take your 2p and raise you 10p.
And what do you mean you don't care about any virat**s (is vibrators really a word the Café will censor?) .... that's not what they "young" "lady" from saturday night told me (on sunday morning not long after I saw you) ...... She said you were perring like a kitten in that massage chair. |

Well now I'm curious. Are you going to have steel guts for the thing, or are you cutting everything but the springs out of the plexiglass?
And how well would they hold up to cold weather. I would rather not have a set snap and wind up getting sliced to hell and back during a show. |

Jay,
I think the plexi TCs look great and I will add them to the collection sometime very soon. Unusual looking props are usually a welcome thing in my opinion.
"What's your drug?" she asked. "Hope" he said, "The most addicting one of all."
