I am going to do a show at school in May and I want a very special person to join me in a little routine. This girl is very funny and has given me support and has given me a special 15-20 minute segment in the school Gala to do magic. To show my thanks for all the support she has given me I want to add her to a part of my show without her knowing. She is a very funny person so I would like to do a comedy routine with her. What types of routines could I do that are funny yet effective and last about 5 minutes. I want to make a good impression because she is graduating this year and I might not see her again. Your ideas will help a lot because I am not too good with comedy routines.

What do you mean by wanting to make a good impression? From her? Or from the audience?

Well for everyone really. I just want to do something that will astonish her and the audience. Last year I did a show and loved it. It wasn't the most amazing thing you'll ever see but she loved that so I wanna kick it up a notch.

The changing bag would be good. You do something with one side of the bag - comedy bit of both the red and white silk changing color and back ... and after that do the switch and let her hold the changing bag and she wave the wand around the bag and pull out a 36 inches blendo silk.
From the audience point of view and as well as hers, the magic seem to come from her. Hope this idea helps. |

Although I normally dislike the typical change bag as something that looks like a magician's prop, I am impressed with James Tong's suggestion. It seems to be a really effective use of the bag. Nice!

Joe Karson "Worlds Fastest Card Trick". If timed correctly it will get tons of laughs, since she is a friend you could do a little before act staging to make sure she does her part correctly. Just don't give up the kicker ending to her!!! If you get this effect and want to know my kicker ending PM me.
Red Carpet - Always kills. Thoughts Transmitter 2000 - Scheduled to release this month from MagicEnhancer.com - Brings down the house. If your on a budget, you could do the professors nightmare and perform it as a do as I do with her. Lots of room for comedy with that one, same with linking rings.
No one said it would be easy, or did they?

There might be something in Marrota's 'Dynamic Duo' dvd...although there is a rope routine in there that wouldn't be appropriate.

There is a less dramatic but much less expensive way to do a similar routine with your volunteer than using the Transmitter....... I think it's on a dvd from BJ Hickman's website involving a deck of cards and a mirror that's shown to the audience.....if you can't find it, you can pm me....I've done it..it's a comedy piece of mentalism, not a killer, but will wound!
