I wish people would stop complaining. You all seem ungrateful. The show was made for the general public, not magicians.
I think we should all be happy that the other show is off the air and they have some REAL magic, not made up secrets.

And yes, it's created for the general public, but I would argue that the general public would appreciate a better mix from the show. I would even argue that in a side-by-side comparison, the more intimate "personality piece" would be favored more often than big, stage illusions, by the general public. My reason for that thought is that people are naturally more interested in other people and their characteristics and thoughts and persona, than they are in big boxes and props on a stage. I feel that in a stage illusion, the performers are more of a body, than a personality. People like to connect with other people - just look at all the reality shows. Is it the stupid challenges that hook the public, or is it the fact that we get an intimate and personal look at all these different people, learning about their behaviors, traits, vices and habits? It's people that people are drawn to.

I think they should slow the show down. Less performers and give them more time to connect with the audience. As it stands right now the show doesn't have any cohesion.
Magic is a vanishing art.

Edh,
I agree with you there. I would like to see the performers get more time as well. Seems a bit too wham/bam right now. Mario |

I don't think this is really complaining but more of expressing opinions on the show. It's called Masters of Illusion but I don't think the show lives up to it's name. Yes, the show was made for the general public but I think they deserve better than what they are getting. They are tuning in to watch "Masters of Illusion" and what they are seeing is poorly performed illusions, amateuristics manipulation and exposure. Everyone knows that a dove doesn't just appear in a silk but we shouldn't be showing how we look for and get a dove loop and load the silk. Any beginner can do that. We're supposed to be watching professionals.

I agree. I had family over visiting Monday and all they could say was where did they get that music. The tunes are dreadful. From a magic point of view each show has had the same effects just different performers. more time for each act would allow you to warm to each act and not make the performers try to force their personalities in to 3 minutes.

They should give each magician their own episode.

It's really easy for us to post here and pick at the show and it doesn't seem like that helps further the are
That being said I enjoyed McBride Miser's Dream, Jeff is a master at working a crowd In agreement with Danny Diamond about big box tricks ;-( . It's very challenging to get any personality into a 3 minutes played to music big box trick and 3 that were done last Monday I've been seeing a lot of lately It's good to see a decently produced illusion program on TV. Hopefully the show will find a format that fits, a little backstage with the artist might be interesting even to lay audience and allow the artist to connect with the audinece p.s. what's the problem with a man wearing black fingernail polish? It's not like he was wearing a red bowtie with a white jacket or anything ;-)

I was really excited to see Jeff McBride do his misers dream. I had seen him do this at my very first magic convention - Abbotts get together. I loved it.
So, before the commercial I saw he was going to do the misers dream, and I called my wife and son in, and told them this is one of my absolute favorites. We were all let down I don't think it was done any justice on TV. I really liked Kalin's manipulations and the sawing. Did not like the birds, or origami. The problem with the show (I think) is that its edited poorly. To make magic good on TV, you really need a director and editor that are in tune with magic. Copperfield makes magic look good on TV Worlds Greatest Magic made magic look pretty good on TV Criss Angel makes TV magic look good on TV I am grateful for the series, (even though I've only seen about 1 1/2 shows) but don't really think its all that good. And this is what I've heard MANY laypeople say too...... |

I thought the second set with Arian Black doing silk and dove magic was terrible. A blind man could see the steals, she made faces and head movements when she couldn't open the dove harness that would obviously tell the audience that something was wrong. I wasn't impressed at all with the heart paper tear. Too small for stage and difficult to tell exactly what she was doing at first. I agree!!!! I have to be mean here. She should NOT be doing birds. Someone needs to teach Arian on the art of dove magic. But I have taught a lot students/magicians out there that have that natural talent to pull birds, and some just don't. Sorry Arian! Andy Amyx |

Wow! I must have seen another version because the performances in this one really changed my perceptions. Even though I can appreciate McBride's skill and learned some very good card manipulations from some of his videos, I have always been turned off by his shaman in the woods, mask thing. Forgive me but it has me rolling my eyes. I thought he had really lost touch in what audiences like to see. Then I saw his miser's dream. His audience participation was perfect. He had me hooked before he had even done a single sleight. Heck, he hardly did any sleights in this effect. He had so much fun with this kid and the kid loved it. I'll take this type of performance over any stunt, magic box, or invisible pass.
So I choose to eat my crow baked up in a pie, a la mode please. Kalin's ball manipulation act was the absolute first time I have seen that type of act without getting bored. His charisma and slow deliberate timing made it a joy to watch. Straight jacket escape .... yawn. Done on a surfing board ... maybe a little more interesting. Your presentation in putting the jacket on with the spectator ... fantastic. I like your style. The street effects .... well, it is easy for me to be critical sitting in front of my computer. I am sure there were some better effects in the skill range of these performers that would have played better.
All small town magicians know what 793.8 signifies.
