Haywire,
I see were you are coming from and the problem I'm having with that idea is my stage set up has no way of ditching the dove out of any prop. My drop box is for silks, cards & whatever else and the box for the doves is right behind it & it's about chest level. To the front right of the stage is my rabbit routine with a dove vanish with the use of a tear apart vanish which I use a little bit later in the show and to the front left is a small stand with a top hat on it. C, Now you know my problem! Posted: Jan 27, 2009 4:37pm -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I was just wondering I might be able to do a dove toss to silk or confetti using a Latex dove! But the question is how deceptive is it to the audience? Has anyone ever used one, and kind of reactions did you get?

Yes I had a student do this. He switched out the dove for a latex one. And you would be surprised that it does fool the laymen.

Jeff, I wouldn't introduce a rubber dove as the first effect but after producing or vanising real ones, it's easy to pass off a rubber one. You just don't want to show it for any length of time. I've seen magicians produce several doves and place them in a cage where they are visible. When the time comes, they reach into the cage and take out the rubber one. It's pretty close to fool proof.

Yes, a rubber dove can be very effective. The old Abbott's Dovan is a good example.

Which latex dove is the best on the market? Also I was looking at the one at The magic Warehouse .com but I'm not sure if that one is any good!

Don't know if this will help, but many years ago I ended my cards-and-doves routine by making a dove appear out of a silk and perching it on my left hand. Then I produced a cane with my right hand, the dove hopped onto the cane, and I just walked off with the cane under my arm and a big smile (the dove facing the audience, of course). Always got a great reaction.
I think part of what made it work was that I had just vanished another dove, and the (subliminal) implication was that it was the same dove.
That's our departed buddy Burt, aka The Great Burtini, doing his famous Cups and Mice routine

Jeff, this is the Nielsen Dove. It's just not a great picture. There are some less expensive doves, but this one is worth every penny.

My living latex dove gets yellowish over time and it needs a wash and a good coat of talcum powder before looking really realistic again...does any one else have this happen to them??
