Ha HA Good one Doug. There was no running involved in my matter. More like slow motion driving. You have driven through a fair grounds at one point I'm sure. So you know how slow you got to go?

I just watched an episode of Top Gear and they were in Japan. In Japan they have those speed cameras all over. However when you come up on one there are signs that tell you one is about to come up. If you are speeding, it will snap a photo.
Here's the catch! Just having a photo of your license plate is NOT ENOUGH, they also take a picture of the windshield, so they can see your face because in order to fine you they need both. The host of the show was speeding right through the speed zones and was holding a MASK in front of his face! Funny... Justin Style |

Does anyone remember that old Columbo episode where the guy wore a mask in front of the speed camera, and Columbo proved it was a mask because of the way the shadows fell?

I remember that one Stone!
My mother got a ticket in the mail from San Francsicso and they clearly were guessing at license plats. It wasn't her, wasn't her car, not even close. In the bay area some contractor ran the program and it was so bad that if you argued the ticket you'd win just because it was a hassle for the police to deal with it. The company that ran the program got a big cut of the fines paid. |

I don't know about Florida's traffic laws, but in California you can request a trial by written declaration: you write a statement and mail it to the court, the officer (presumably) writes a statement, a judge reads the statements and rules.
"So what's the advantage?", you ask? If you are not satisfied with the judge's ruling on a written-declaration trial, you can request a follow-up court date and a second (live) trial. You can even request traffic school at the follow-up. A system where you get one chance to be found not guilty (including the failure of the officer to submit a declaration) and, if found guilty, a second chance to be found not guilty (or to get traffic school) is an incredible deal: heads-you-win, tails-you-tie are pretty good odds. |

Favourite traffic story was when a guy I know made an illegal turn and was stopped. The cop said "Making an illegal turn, are we?" to which he replied "Oh, you did it too?". Needless to say, he got a ticket..

I was pulled over for making an illegal turn with a giant sign saying it was illegal next to me with a highway patrolman watching me do it and I waved at him while doing it. He let me go because my wife offered to testify against me and he figured I never saw the sign or I wouldn't have waved.

An illegal turn is an illegal turn. You should have pulled yourself over and paid a ticket to keep all the swine working. : )
I'm amazed after going to a mall or grocery store that we can drive at all. Try walking through a store with out someone running into you. These are the same folks we drive with. Scary. |

When I pulled over after the illegal turn it was a side street off the highway and every dang curb was red. I'm creeping along, waving, at a mile an hour looking for a place that isn't red when the cop says over the intercom "It's alright just stop".
