Is there such a thing as a version of a matrix effect that uses four pieces of a playing card? What I have in mind is to tear a card into four pieces and then restore the card to whole after doing a matrix type effect possibly under a hank or silk? Somewhat like Mark Wilson's four coin assembly.
I feel certain that this is not an original idea but have no thoughts as to where to look for such an effect. Any help is appreciated.

The matrix I use is done with four cards, however I see no reason why four pieces of a card could not be used. Sounds like a good idea to me. My matrix is based on the one done by Gary Kurtz.

Yes. it has been done with card pieces. Derek Dingle's routine (in the Kaufman book) was once used on TV by Doug Henning.
Harris also had one, there are probably others. Paul Hallas. |

Nicodemus,
Well, I've never seen it before. Sounds like a great routine. Figure out how to do it yourself and then one day you might just be putting it in a book of your own. Jeb (Sable)

Really neat idea! Finally a plot for a torn and restored card trick. Although I've never worked with it, there is a card matrix using the four aces in "The Magic of Michael Ammar." I'm not sure if you could adapt the handling to four pieces of a card or not. I think his routine also uses four coins and is actually magician fooler. Like I said, I'm not sure. If you have "The Magic of Michael Ammar", you might want to take a look at it. I really like that idea though. Very creative thinking! Let us know how it goes.

Another effect that might fit well with this is Tearable from Doc Eason. I think he credits it to someone else (can't remember who off the top of my head) but folks dig it.

In JC Wagner's "Seven Secrets" (an awesome book available at a VERY reasonable price from any major dealer), you will find "Matrix Torn and Restored Card," where the four torn pieces join as they assemble--sounds like exactly what you're looking for.

Okay, I omitted it, the pieces also restore in the Dingle routine!
It may have been the Wagner routine mentioned above that also appeared in one of the early Harris books. Jeb said; Figure out how to do it yourself and then one day you might just be putting it in a book of your own. True, but worth looking at others you know of to make sure you don't publish a routine already in print It is however, becoming increasingly difficult to know what is out there due to the sheer number of short run booklets, manuscripts and lecture notes released each year. Being able to ask at the Cafe can prove helpful, but even here we don't know everything. Full marks Nicodemus for at least making the effort. Paul Hallas |

Thank you one and all. I have both the Ammar and Dingle books and will page through to see what is there.
And thanks Scott... I will get a copy of the Seven Secrets ASAP. - Nico

I'm still coming up with stuff that came out in some pamplet three years ago at somebodies lecture. Sable
