Just curious if anyone here ever did this act, has seen it done, has any inside info on it...
This is where a performer is sealed into a huge block of ice and exhibited for the public (Kind of like the Blaine stunt a few years back). I came across an old manuscript on the Learned Pig website and it looks doable. I'm thinking about it for a promotional event this summer. Just poking at the idea right now. Anyone know anything about this? Feel free to PM. Gwyd |

I did it...I was on a 600 mile snowmobile race Anchorage to Fairbanks (Broadcasting the The Midnight Sun 600)...hit Tok Junction middle of the night...Ice fog white out and 70 BELOW. Fortunately I found a friendly trailer and thawed out. As to the act...your nuts.

Either today or tomorrow, I will.
Thanks Brett! And a 600 mile snowmobile race sounds pretty nuts to me Doug! As for me being nuts...That is a given. Kind of a job requirement don't you think? Gwyd |

About 15 years ago I saw this at a car dealership as a promotion, and was covered on the radio. The person was laying down in an ice block in a refridgerated trailer and we filed thru it a couple at a time. It was free. It was interesting, but not overly impressive.

I know I put footage of this act in my "Carnival's Been and Gone" DVD - it came from color home movies of the 1939 New York World's Fair (the raw footage is on archive.org as the 'Medicus collection', 5 hours, I dunno which reel).
One of the standing exhibits, a hardtop building, featured an elaborate presentation, as a smiling (and of course scantily-clad) girl lay down onstage and blocks of ice were built around her at every show. The footage wasn't too bad, but if you didn't know what you were seeing you might not have put all the outside/inside views together, and for home movies there wasn't a whole lot of action.
